Manchester United vs Newcastle betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Manchester United vs Newcastle United prediction: Man United 1-0 Newcastle

As bad as things have gotten in recent weeks at Manchester United, failure to beat Newcastle at home remains nearly unthinkable.

Rafa Benitez’s side are one of three teams yet to win in the league this season.

Man United vs Newcastle: Who will win?

Man United are 9/20 favourites to pick up their first win in five matches. Newcastle are 8/1 to win while the draw is 7/2.

Goals have been at a premium for both sides lately. Under 2.5 goals is 9/10.

Marcus Rashford is set to start with Jesse Lingard out injured. The England international is 11/2 to score the opening goal of the game and 7/4 to net anytime.

10/11 odds of Romelu Lukaku scoring anytime fail to inspire confidence as the Belgian is on a run of five matches without finding the back of the net.

Man United vs Newcastle Premier League match preview

Two teams in different sorts of crises face off on Saturday as Manchester United host Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Manchester United begin the weekend in 10th following last weekend’s humiliating 3-1 defeat at West Ham. Marcus Rashford netted for the Red Devils who were thoroughly outplayed on the day.

United were then held to a 0-0 draw at home by Valencia in their midweek Champions League game, extending their winless run to four matches. Mourinho’s side were booed off the park by the Old Trafford crowd.

On borrowed time

Jose Mourinho’s job is well and truly on the line following a string of poor results and lacklustre performances from his players – who he has not shied away from criticising.

Things are just as grim for Mourinho’s opposite number. Newcastle head into the match on the back of last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat to Leicester. They sit 17th in the table on just two points.

United won last season’s corresponding fixture 4-1. Dwight Gayle gave Newcastle an early lead before goals from Anthony Martial, Chris Smalling, Paul Pogba and Lukaku.

The Toon won the reverse fixture 1-0 in February and will be aiming for consecutive league wins over United for the first time since 1972.

Mourinho has an excellent managerial home record against Newcastle, winning seven out of seven against them in all competitions.

Man United team news vs Newcastle

Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard are all sidelined through injury, while Ashely Young is a doubt

Mourinho was slammed for fielding a back five against West Ham, which included Scott McTominay at centre back.

Another miserable performance from Alexis Sanchez could see him replaced by Anthony Martial – who himself is in pretty poor form.

Marcus Rashford is set to start out wide with Romelu Lukaku leading the line.

Victor Lindelof was rested in midweek and could return in place of Eric Bailly.

Luke Shaw was named United’s player of the month for September, but that isn’t saying an awful lot. Shaw and Rashford have been named in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.

Newcastle team news vs Man United

Joselu should lead the line for Newcastle with Salomon Rondon an alternate option. The Venezuelan missed out last week but should be available again on Saturday.

Paul Dummett is expected to be available after missing last weekend’s match with hamstring injury. Federico Fernandez remains a doubt for Benitez’s side.

Florian Lejeune is a long-term injury absentee.
