United will go in search of their first Premier League title win since 2013 – even Leicester have won it more recently than that.

Man United finished as runners-up to rivals Manchester City last season, although the gap between the two sides was 19 points.

Leicester finished in 9th place last season, ending the campaign with the seventh best away record in the division.

United have a particularly good record in their opening matches, winning 17 of their previous 26 first fixtures.

Pre-season for Manchester United & Leicester

It’s been a disjointed pre-season for Man United and Leicester, with both clubs missing a number of World Cup stars.

Jose Mourinho will be delighted that pre-season is behind him. The Red Devils won one of their six matches, which included a 4-1 defeat to Liverpool in the United States.

Of course, not too much can be made of the friendly results, but it does seem as though the mood in the camp is not as high as it should be.

After Chile missed out on a spot at the World Cup, Alexis Sanchez will almost certainly benefit from a full pre-season – his first since arriving in England in 2014.

Sanchez scored two goals and bagged an assist in United’s six matches.

Scoring four goals in their final three matches, Kelechi Iheanacho has been Leicester’s stand out player in Jamie Vardy’s summer absence. The Foxes played five matches, including a 2-1 win over Lille and a 1-1 draw against Valencia.

Overall, Claude Puel’s side won two, drew two and lost one, keeping one clean sheet in the process.

New faces for Manchester United & Leicester

United’s most notable signing is that of midfielder Fred, who joined from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mourinho has hinted throughout the summer that he would like to bring in one or two more players – with Leicester’s very own Harry Maguire heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Leicester have been fairly active in the transfer market, but the sale of star man Riyad Mahrez stands out above any of their incomings.

James Maddison joins from Norwich for £25m, while right-back Ricardo Pereira signed from Porto for a similar fee. Former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans signed from West Brom for £3.5m.

Man United team news vs Leicester

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Marouane Fellaini are all major doubts following their late return from international duty.

Summer signing Diogo Dalot has a knee injury and will only be ready in September.

Ander Herrera hopes to recover from a tight hamstring to start in midfield alongside new boy Feed.

Fitness doubts Phil Jones and Romelu Lukaku are both in contention to feature after returning early from their respective holidays. Marcus Rashford is expected to lead the line.

Ashley Young, Eric Bailly and Marcus Rojo are all being assessed, while Antonio Valencia is ruled out through injury.

Nemanja Matic is ruled out after undergoing surgery.

Leicester team news vs Man United

Demarai Gray looks to have recovered from an ankle injury in time for Friday’s game, while Nampalys Mendy remains a major doubt.

Jonny Evans is expected to miss out while Puel has all but ruled out Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire from the opening game.

James Maddison is expected to start in behind Iheanacho.
