Manchester United FC vs Tottenham Hotspur FC: Match preview

Manchester United bounced back from a defeat to Crystal Palace in their season opener with a late win away at Brighton.

Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot in the tenth minute of added time, just after the Seagulls thought they had stolen a point.

But the performance will have come as a worrying sign for the Red Devils, with Brighton managing more shots and more possession.

There has also been growing concern from the supporters as to the lack of new signings.

So far, with just a few days remaining in the transfer window, Donny van de Beek is the only new arrival.

They appear to be working on deals for one of either Ousmane Dembele and Jadon Sancho, but there appears to still be more work needed on this current squad.

Tottenham’s hectic schedule

Tottenham’s Europa League qualifier against Maccabi Haifa was their seventh game in just 18 days.

Jose Mourinho will be relatively content with his side’s start to the season having advanced in both the EFL Cup and Europa League.

In the Premier League, they followed up a defeat to Everton on the opening day with a 5-2 win over Southampton.

Then last Sunday, they were held to a 1-1 draw with Newcastle last weekend following a controversial 95th minute VAR decision.

Callum Wilson salvaged Steve Bruce’s side a point as the Magpies were awarded a penalty for a handball against Eric Dier.

Although, unlike Manchester United, Spurs have enjoyed a successful transfer window so far.

Mourinho has added Hojbjerg, Hart, Doherty, Bale, Reguilon and now Carlos Vinicius to his squad.

Tottenham will remain without just Gareth Bale on the weekend as he targets a return to action after the international break.

Heung-min Son could make a return from a hamstring injury, although Mourinho admits he is still a doubt for Sunday.
