Manchester City vs Manchester United: Match preview
Manchester City have the chance to move 17 points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola’s side just can’t stop winning and in the Manchester Derby, they will be looking for a 22nd consecutive win.
Following their 4-1 win over Wolves on Tuesday, they have now scored the most goals and conceded the fewest goals.
Incredibly after 27 matches, City have conceded just 17 goals all season with Ruben Dias playing a major role in transforming this City side.
In attack, they have had the luxury of being able to make regular changes each week whilst maintaining real quality in their line-ups.
Guardiola made six changes against Wolves and his side were still able to put four past Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
Manchester United running on empty
Manchester United’s push for the title looks to be well and truly over as they crashed to a second consecutive draw on Wednesday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side once again fired a blank with a number of their attacking players started to look jaded.
Even Bruno Fernandes who has been the heartbeat of this United side looked off the pace in south London.
The Red Devils will now be looking to just maintain their spot in the top four.
They are still five points above Everton in fifth place, although with a tricky game on Sunday and the Toffees having a game in hand, they are far from guaranteed to stay there.
West Ham, Liverpool and Tottenham all also remain in the race for the top four and will be looking to capitalise on any falters from United, Leicester or Chelsea.
Manchester City team news vs Manchester United
Pep Guardiola will once again have the luxury of being able to pick from a fully fit squad.
Nathan Ake has returned to training ahead of the game and is available to feature if needed.
Guardiola made six changes from the win over West Ham on Tuesday and his side still cruised to victory against Wolves.
Manchester United team news vs Manchester City
Victor Lindelof is set to return to United’s starting line-up on Sunday after recovering from a slight back injury.
The knock meant he was only able to be named on the bench in the goalless draw with Palace.
Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial are also in contention to return against City.
The duo are set to be assessed ahead of the clash although neither are likely to start.
Paul Pogba remains sidelined for the clash with a thigh injury.
The Frenchman is due to return next week for the Red Devils’ clash with West Ham.
David de Gea, Juan Mata and Phil Jones all also remain out of the Manchester Derby.
