Manchester City are at their best when playing in the Premier League at the Etihad. They’ve won by a scoreline of 5-0 in three of their last six home Premier League matches.

Leicester have won only one of their last nine matches away from home.

Although Brendan Rodgers’ side have made a great start to the season, the recent injury loss of Wilfried Ndidi could prove costly for the Foxes.

Manchester City vs Leicester City: Match preview

Manchester City host Leicester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

After being given a bye in the opening weekend, Manchester City started their campaign last Monday with a solid 3-1 win at Wolves.

Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring with a penalty before Phil Foden doubled City’s lead. Wolves pulled one back in the second half but a late goal from Gabriel Jesus restored City’s two-goal margin.

Pep Guardiola’s side were in action again on Thursday night in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Bournemouth. Liam Delap, son of Rory, scored on his senior debut. Bournemouth drew level before the break before Phil Foden scored the winner – his second goal in as many games. Man City will face Burnley in the fourth round.

Leicester actually begin the weekend as Premier League leaders with two wins out of two. Harvey Barnes, James Justin and Dennis Praet were all on target in their 4-2 win over Burnley last Saturday.

A heavily-rotated Leicester side was knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday following a 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal, but Rodgers’ team selection indicated that he was clearly prioritising Monday’s game.

Manchester City have won eight of their last night matches against Leicester in all competitions.

These two sides have met 18 times in the Premier League. Man City have won 10 of those matches, drawing two and losing six. Their most recent meeting saw Man City win 1-0 at the King Power Stadium in February. Gabriel Jesus scored the only goal of the game.

Manchester City team news vs Leicester City

Pep Guardiola made a number of changes for City’s Carabao Cup tie against Bournemouth. Kyle Walker, Rodri, and Phil Foden were the players to keep their place in the side from last week’s win over Wolves.

Ederson will return in goal after being rested.

City are unlikely to have any of their injured players back in time for Monday’s game, which rules out Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

In a major blow, Gabriel Jesus is also out for City. Jesus was injured in the Wolves match, and he could be missing for 3 weeks.

Ilkay Gundogan will also miss out after testing positive for COVID-19.

Aymeric Laporte remains a doubt, so John Stones may partner Nathan Ake in defence.

Eric Garcia made his return from injury on Thursday night and should take his place on the bench.

After scoring on his debut against the Cherries, youngster Rory Delap will be hoping to be involved in the matchday squad.

Leicester City team news vs Manchester City

Leicester have been dealt a major blow with news that Wilfried Ndidi could be sidelined for up to three months. Ndidi has recently been filling in at centre back.

Jonny Evans is fit and available and should come in for Ndidi. Wes Morgan, who started against Arsenal in midweek, is an alternative.

Brendon Rodgers also made a host of changes in midweek. Jamie Vardy was rested entirely, while James Justin was an unused substitute.

James Maddison played around 70 minutes in the Carabao Cup and should be fit to start on Monday.

Ricardo Pereira has returned to light training but won’t be available for selection for a while.

Filip Benkovic is also out with a groin injury.
