Leicester City vs Crystal Palace betting tips: Preview, predictions & odds

Leicester City clash with Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium on Monday with a chance to pour another round of cement into a Champions League foundation next season that looks increasingly likely to harden and settle come the end of 2020-21 campaign. Palace may find themselves neck-deep in a rebuilding program over the summer on the back of key attacking pieces potentially making for the exit rows, and how the club decides to go about its refit could have long-lasting implications.

With just one win in their last six Premier League fixtures, Crystal Palace are up against it when they travel to Leicester City on Monday, with the Foxes having a chance to climb seven-points clear of West Ham United in 5th, further solidifying their chances of Champions League football next season.

Palace can always be a threat on their day, especially through Wilfried Zaha, but a full-strength Leicester XI – with the exception of the missing Harvey Barnes – is expected now that Brendan Rodgers has one focus alone up until the FA Cup final.

The form of Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy, with the return to fitness of James Maddison, should put Leicester in with a very strong chance of securing all three points on their home patch.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace: Recommended bets

To Score First: Kelechi Iheanacho

Well, on current form, surely one or both of Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho will grab a goal in this one. Iheanacho comes with the better odds of return here, so I have gone with that. But to apply slightly more logic, he has scored in seven of his last ten appearances in all competitions for Leicester, totalling eleven goals. Four of those have come in his last three outings. There is no hotter striker in England at the moment than the Nigerian international.

Result/Both Teams to Score: Leicester City – Yes

Crystal Palace have not been kept quiet on the scoresheet for the last four matches running, but that does not mean I back them to get one over on Leicester City here. However, Palace does have the Foxes over the last six outings they have clashed, taking three points on three occasions and earning a draw in another. But pulling back to Leicester, they have won two of the last three meetings and the singular draw came back in December when the pair shared the spoils in a 1-1 affair. Leicester on form overall – and the form of Iheanacho-Vardy – should push them over the line here though.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace: Match preview

Leicester City are reaping the benefits of having another striker in Kelechi Iheanacho that is banging in the goals of late, taking the pressure off the lonely shoulders of Jamie Vardy that has persisted for nearly the entire time he has been at the King Power Stadium. Nigerian international Iheanacho has been in a rich vein of form of late, hitting four in his last three, which expands to eleven in his last ten in all competitions.

It could not have come at a better time, either. Vardy had a long goal drought crop up this term when both James Maddison and Harvey Barnes suffered injury issues (Barnes is still not back fit), and the former Manchester City striker finally took his chance when given a run of matches while finding his confidence. Team mate and first-choice keeper Kasper Schmeichel spoke of the faith his peers and manager showed him in, keen to see his quality shown in training carry over on match day, which it has done in spades of late.

On the back of his efforts, a reinvigorated Vardy, and the return of Maddison to first-team duties, Leicester have won three of their last five, though hitting West Ham United for two and still coming away on the losing end will certainly sting a bit. With Chelsea putting the Hammers to the sword over the weekend, the Foxes now have a chance to climb seven points clear of David Moyes’ men while re-establishing a 4-point cushion on the Blues simultaneously. And while there may be continued speculation on where the future of Brendan Rodgers remains given potential interest from Tottenham in the wake of José Mourinho’s sacking, Rodgers has Leicester City on a collision course with Champions League football next season and an impressive return on the project taking place at the King Power Stadium which looks set to keep rolling into the 2021-22 campaign.

Facelift on the horizon for Crystal Palace as season winds down

Well, it was only a matter of time, wasn’t it? Everyone expects the yearly – well, bi-yearly, really – period where Crystal Palace are linked with Wilfried Zaha casting his gaze on matters outside of the club in a bid to jump ship; which we could not blame him for in truth. But now the Eagles may have to deal with similar reported interest in Christian Benteke from Belgium in the shape of Royal Antwerp. Given the failure for the club to kick on despite the business they have tried to conduct over the last few seasons, this was always a possibility, especially with the big Belgian out of contract in the summer.

Added to the mix the probability of the club moving on from Roy Hodgson this summer as well, and the project at Selhurst Park could get very interesting indeed. Wages saved from Benteke’s contract being jettisoned off the wage bill would be a big boost, and if any move away ever materializes for Zaha, the likely fee received would go a long way as well. With the futures of other players the likes of Dutch international Patrick van Aanholt also uncertain, this is a much-needed facelift for a club that had greater ambitions than trying to scrap it out in the bottom-half of the table.

There is little left to play for this season as well. Palace currently sit 13th in the table, 11-points clear of Fulham. Baring something unforeseen, it’s all but guaranteed that the Eagles will remain in the Premier League next season. With that in mind, opening themselves up to all sorts of interesting possibilities on where to take the club next should begin to materialise. Should they gamble on a manager like Scott Parker who did a better job at Fulham than he will likely get credit for? Will Jean-Philippe Mateta make it back to London and have faith placed in him if certain departures do take place? Will Eberechi Eze remain in that part of London long enough for the club to view him as the key puzzle piece of a rebuilding program that could focus around him? Time will tell regarding what is to be made of Crystal Palace. But one thing is for sure; the MkII version needs to be an immeasurably better one than what is currently on offer if they are to ever push forward as a considerable footballing entity with something to say in the English top flight.

Leicester City team news vs Crystal Palace

It is just about a full-strength expected matchday XI for Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City as they welcome Crystal Palace to the King Power Stadium.

Harvey Barnes and James Justin remain out through injury and unavailable, while Wes Morgan is doubtful but would not factor into selection plans. Expect an unchanged XI and even the same tactical deployment.

Crystal Palace team news vs Leicester City

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is amidst the clubs own impression of Liverpool as he tries to scape together a decent team for the Eagles’ trip to Leicester City.

No less than six players are expected to be unavailable, as James McCarthy, James Tompkins, Nathaniel Clyne, Mamadou Sakho, Nathan Ferguson, and Wayne Hennessey are all out of contention.

Gary Cahill, James MacArthur, and Connor Wickham are listed as doubts, with perhaps Cahill being the only one that could be ready in time to potentially feature.
