Betting prediction: Leeds United 2-2 Leicester City

Leeds United welcomes Leicester to Elland Road on Sunday for this Premier League match.

‎The Whites have a narrow upper hand in the head-to-head, with 9 wins to Leicester City’s 8, from their 18 encounters in the Premier League.

The difference between the two clubs is also a small one when looking at all competitions, with Leeds winning 48 matches to Leicester’s 44.

Leicester have won 3 of the last 4 matches between them in all competitions. The pair traded away wins in two excellent games for the neutrals last season.

Leeds United vs Leicester City: Recommended bets

101 Great Goals’ prediction of Leeds 2-2 Leicester is available at odds of 13/1.

3-1 Leeds win. Leeds won the last match between these sides 1-3 in Leicester back in January this year. A repeat of this score on Sunday is available at odds of 23/1.

1-4 Leicester win. Leicester last visit to Elland Road was almost a year ago to the day and ended in a 1-4 win for the visitors. You can back them at 41/1 for the same scoreline here on Sunday.

Over 2.5 goals. There have only been 3 matches between these sides in the last 7 years. However, all 3 were action-packed classics finishing with over 2.5 goals and an average of 4.33 goals per game. You can back another high scoring game here on Sunday with odds of 1.66 for over 2.5 goals.

Harvey Barnes Goalscorer. Barnes (above) scored the opening goal in both matches between these sides last season. The 23-years-old winger hasn’t found his goalscoring touch yet this season. Still, you can back Barnes to score the game’s opener yet again on Sunday at 8.5/1. Or 3.2/1 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Leeds.

Odds of 3.5/1 are available if you see Leeds and Leicester cancelling each other out on Sunday.

Leeds United vs Leicester City: Match preview

Two of the most tactically versatile sides in the Premier League face each other once again this weekend and we are hoping for similar to when they faced off last season.

Just predicting the starting formations for this match is a challenge given that both teams have already used 4 different starting formations already this season and can alternate between 3 and 4 at the back with ease.

Last weekend, Bielsa cracked out the 3331 formation which he has used a lot in the past for Chile, Bilbao and Marseille but we have only seen sporadically for the odd game in English football. This formation is remarkably versatile in itself, changing from a flat 343 to a 3D3 to a 541 during games.

Rodgers changed to a back-3 system back in March this year to see out the season. However, he reverted to back-4 to start this campaign. After trying 4231, 4141 and a flat 442 against Palace, a run of 1 win in 6 league games demanded a rethink.

He brought out the back-3 once again and saw immediate results with 4 wins in 4 in all competitions. However, a defeat at the weekend followed by a home-draw against Spartak Moscow on Thursday could see Rodgers hit that formation randomiser button once more in the search of some balance.

Leicester’s only clean sheet in the last 15 games was against Millwall in the EFL Cup and have conceded 15 goals in their last 7 games. This isn’t new for a Rodgers side, who famously leaked goals at Liverpool and the 2013/14 title challenge was defined by surrendering a 3-goal lead against Crystal Palace.

Regardless of the result, it should be a cracking game for neutrals between two tactically versatile teams who have both leaked goals at the rate of teams battling relegation so far this season. They are on course to concede roughly 65 league goals each at their current rates. That is, unless they land on a formation that gives them the balance between defence and attack that they are searching for.

Leeds United team news vs Leicester City

Robin Koch has missed Leeds’ last 6 games with osteitis pubis; pain and swelling in the area where the left and right pubic bones meet. He is expected to be out until at least December.

Luke Ayling is also ruled out with a knee injury. Ayling has had a simple surgery to solve the problem and now just requires some time to recover. He likely won’t feature again for the club in 2021.

Patrick Bamford has been out since 1-1 draw at Newcastle United in September with an ankle problem. It appears the club are reviewing it from game-to-game waiting for the disappearance of pain. He will not be available to face Leicester, that much we do know.

Junior Firpo has missed Leeds’ last 3 Premier League games. However, the 25-year-old left-back is expected to return here. The question then is where he would fit in the 3-3-3-1 formation of last weekend. Or whether this would mean a return to a 4-1-4-1.

Leicester City team news vs Leeds United

Leicester still have 3 players on the long term injury list.

Wesley Fofana suffered a broken leg in pre-season ruling him out of action until 2022.

James Justin is still on the long road back from an ACL injury. He is due to start training with the team again very soon but it will likely take several weeks and possible reserve matches before he can feature for the first team again.

Nampalys Mendy is yet to feature for Leicester this season due to a groin injury. No timeframe for his return has been provided yet by the club.

Wilfred Ndidi hasn’t featured in the Premier League for Leicester since the 2-2 draw with Burnley due to a thigh injury. He was an unused substitute last weekend and made a 30-minute cameo against Spartak Moscow in midweek. Is he fit enough to start and replace Boubakary Soumaré though?

Marc Albrighton is still out injured due to a horrendous challenge in the previous game in Moscow. He is going to be out until after the November international break.

Ricardo Pereira missed the defeat against Arsenal last weekend and the 1-1 draw with Spartak Moscow in midweek due to illness. He is expected back here though with one of Castagne or Thomas making way.

James Maddison (above) was also out on Thursday night due to the same sickness bug affecting Pereira. Ayoze Pérez is on standby to continue as Leicester’s attacking midfielder in his absence if required.
