Fulham vs Newcastle United betting tips: Preview, predictions & odds

Destinies have been confirmed for both Fulham and Newcastle United in 2020-21, with the Cottagers dropping back down to the Championship while the Magpies have had to suffer another season of complete mediocrity, if not a downright disappointment. Both clubs have a mountain of work to do over the summer which starts when they square off at Craven Cottage to set the overall tone of the next few months.

Betting prediction: Fulham 0-0 Newcastle United

Newcastle United has considerable injury concerns when they close out their 2020-21 Premier League season on the road at Fulham, with potentially up to nine players being unavailable for Steve Bruce in a list that includes Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton, Joe Willock. Little is expected from the Magpies at Craven Cottage and though the Cottagers are destined to play Championship football next season, Scott Parker’s troops could end the season in winning ways despite the overall nature of the campaign but a draw seems a fair bet.

Fulham vs Newcastle United: Recommended bets

Halftime/Full-Time: Draw – Draw

Injury-ravaged Newcastle could struggle to find goals on their travels with the expected absences of Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Joe Willocks. Though Fulham is able to play with freedom now that their fate is sealed, their inability to score goals all season long seems more likely to continue than not. A draw seems like a good possibility here.

Result/Both Teams to Score: Draw – No

On the last day of the season, why not double down and take a big risk with a big reward. With 14/1 odds, a goalless draw on the back of a Fulham’s poor goal record overall, and Newcastle’s injury list for the clash, could really pay off.

Fulham vs Newcastle United: Match preview

I’m really, really grateful for the support. I just want to say thank you to them. I tried to give my best this year and it’s a real achievement for me to get this title. It shows that I’ve done good work, so I’m happy about that. I’ve won some Player of the Months at clubs, and Player of the Season with FIFA, but this is different. I just want to say thank you, but I’m not the only one who has had a big season, so I‘m really proud to receive this.” – Alphonse Areola

Perhaps it is unfortunately fitting that Fulham’s player of the season as voted by the fans is on-loan goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. Switching the French capital for its English counterpart, the PSG shot-stopper and French international has done incredibly well during his time at Craven Cottage, with only four keepers in the Premier League making more saves than the Paris-native this season. But his success between the posts speaks to how little the club did to support his efforts on the pitch, while also highlighting how reliant Fulham was this term on their loan signings to try to help the club survive at the top. With Areola and a cadre of other rentals heading back to their parent clubs in the coming days, how the club game-out their direction in squad building to not only tackle the Championship but offer up enough balance and quality to target long-term sustainability on the pitch should they regain Premier League status after next season, is a massive undertaking.

Newcastle United looking to end on a high

“Just recently, just when we’ve needed it, when we’ve really come under the pump, we’ve produced form which has put us into the top six or seven for current form, which is terrific for the team. I’m delighted with the way they’ve responded. We must finish off. We’ve got a chance to equal last year, or be better than last year in terms of points total, so let’s try and do our utmost. The resolve and belief of the players has been terrific. Just when we needed it, when we were all up against it, they responded in the right way. Let’s keep it together one more time.”

It is easy enough to say that Newcastle United has not been good enough this season, though hardly anyone had pegged them to finish outside of the bottom six clubs in the run-up to the 2020-21 campaign. When there was more pressure, the Magpies failed to deliver for the vast majority of the season, but a spark from in-form loan signing Joe Willock from Arsenal during the winter window helped reinvigorate Newcastle just enough to now comfortably be secure for another season. Depending on how results go, Steve Bruce’s men could climb as high as 12th on goal difference if Wolves lose at home to Manchester United. But finishing on a high – and higher up the ladder than anyone expected – could be just the shot in the arm the club needs when they move into a summer where new ownership, and hopefully a better plan to help kick the club on via the market and with better direction from the top, could finally plant seeds of progress.

Fulham team news vs Newcastle United

Scott Parker will be without preferred starters Harrison Reed and Antonee Robinson when Fulham close out their time in the Premier League at home against Newcastle United.

Parker will still also be without the services of Tom Cairney and Terence Kongolo, but an injury-ravaged Newcastle United could present an opportunity for one last win in the top flight.

Newcastle United team news vs Fulham

Steve Bruce has a host of fitness concerns to consider as Newcastle United heads into their summer break with a final trip away from St. James’ Park.

Jamaal Lascelles, Isaac Hayden, Ryan Fraser, Callum Wilson, and Karl Darlow are all guaranteed unavailable for selection via injury, while Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin, Joe Willock, and Martin Dúbravka are all listed as doubts after the quartet all picked up knocks against Sheffield United last time out.
