Fulham vs Arsenal: Recommended bets

Both teams to score. While there have been improvements in Arsenal’s defence – especially with a back five – some vulnerabilities remain. New faces at the back, such as William Saliba and Gabriel Maghaeles, may also take some time to adjust.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score. Aubameyang has already got his campaign off to a good start after scoring against Liverpool at Wembley two weeks ago.

Over 2.5 goals. The last two Premier League meetings between the sides have produced 11 goals.

Fulham vs Arsenal: Match preview

A new season of the Premier League starts on Saturday. The first game sees newly-promoted Fulham host Arsenal in a London derby at Craven Cottage.

After being relegated from the Premier League in 2019, Fulham won promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking. Scott Parker’s side finished 4th in the regular season before winning the play-offs.

Arsenal endured won of their most tumultuous and disappointing seasons in recent history. Managerial and captaincy changes and poor performances saw the Gunners finish 8th.

There has been an obvious improvement in the side’s performances since Mikel Arteta took charge in January – this was evident in their FA Cup triumph at the start of last month.

Wins against Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Wolves have proven that Arteta has a successful blueprint for setting his side up against big opposition. The challenge for him now is to help Arsenal produce consistency against the rest of the sides in the league.

Both sides had a relatively short pre-season. Fulham drew 2-2 with MK Dons a couple of weeks ago, before playing in some behind closed doors training games.

Arsenal also played MK Dons, winning the game 4-1. More notably, they beat Liverpool on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the Community Shield. It was also reported last week that the Gunners lost to Aston Villa at the Emirates behind closed doors.

These two sides have met 28 times in the Premier League. Arsenal have won 20 of those, losing just three. Their most recent league meeting ended in a 4-1 Arsenal win at the Emirates on New Year’s Day 2019.

Granit Xhaka, Alexandre Lacazette and Aubameyang were all on the scoresheet that evening.

Fulham team news vs Arsenal

Scott Parker has a clean bill of health ahead of Fulham’s Premier League opener.

Summer signings Antonee Robinson and Mario Lemina are both in contention.

Alphonse Areola could start in goal, despite only signing for the club from PSG on Wednesday. Marek Rodak is the alternative.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored 26 goals for Fulham last season, will lead their attack.

Despite returning from loan, Jean Seri and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa are not expected to be involved.

Arsenal team news vs Fulham

Arsenal have five injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s game, four of which come in defence.

David Luiz is a major doubt to miss out after picking up a neck injury in training. Pablo Mari, Shkodran Mustafi and former Fulham loanee Calum Chambers are working their way back from long-term injuries.

Rob Holding – who now looks set to stay at the club – could start in a five-man defence, along with new boy William Saliba. Saturday’s game is likely to come too soon for Gabriel Magalhaes, who is not yet match fit.

Arteta has a big call to make in goal. Bernd Leno was one of Arsenal’s best players last season before getting injured. Emi Martinez proved to be an equal deputy and starred in Arsenal’s FA Cup run and Community Shield success.

Willian could make his competitive debut, while Alexandre Lacazette, Joe Willock, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Nicolas Pepe, and Bukayo Saka are further options for Arteta to consider.

Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi were both frozen out of the squad at the tail end of last season. Both players have been involved in first-team training and could potentially work their way back into Arteta’s plans.

Gabriel Martinelli is another long-term absentee for the Gunners.
