Betting prediction: Everton 1-0 Watford

Everton’s hot start to the 2021-22 Premier League season has hit a snag in recent weeks, with the Toffees winning just one of their last four fixtures. Absences of key personnel the likes of Abdoulaye Doucouré will not help Rafa Benítez, but visiting Watford are on the back of a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool last weekend, and Everton should be able to get fortress Goodison back up and running against a Hornets outfit that have taken points from just two of their last six fixtures.

Everton vs Watford: Recommended bets

To Score In Either Half: Andros Townsend (6/1 odds)

Andros Townsend has been a hot hand in the pocket of Rafa Benítez in recent weeks, with three goals to his name in Everton’s last four fixtures across all competitions. Against a struggling Watford, Townsend looks a decent bet to get back on the scoresheet.

To Score Anytime: Andros Townsend (2/1 odds)

Another decent bet again surrounds Townsend, especially after Watford surrendered 5-goals against Liverpool in Claudio Ranieri’s return to English football last weekend. Regardless of whether or not key pair Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison feature, Townsend should remain a considerable goal threat.

Everton vs Watford: Match preview

Everton look set to get back on track in the Premier League after a fantastic start to the season, but have fallen to 8th in the table with just one win in their last four league fixtures.

The confirmed long-term absence of Abdoulaye Doucouré is a huge blow for the Toffees as the Frenchman was arguably their top performer thus far in the campaign, but Rafa Benítez could make do with the fact that Richarlison should be back in the match day squad. Andros Townsend looks set to take the reins in the attack, as the English winger has been in superb form in front of goal of late, and could relish the chance to come up against a struggling Watford side.

As for the Hornets, Claudio Ranieri will have to pull a magic rabbit or two out of his hat if he is to get Watford back on track in short order after the club sacked Xisco and replaced him with the former Leicester City man.

His return to the touchline in the Premier League was marred by a 5-0 drubbing courtesy of Liverpool last weekend, and the 70-year-old Italian manager is left with it all to do at Vicarage Road. The club have won just one of their last six league outings and are the not-so-proud owners of one of the worst defensive records in the division. There is attacking talent that Ranieri can tap into in the vein of Ismaïla Sarr, Emmanuel Dennis, and even the creative nuance provided by Tom Cleverley, but it remains a tough task at hand.

Everton team news vs Watford

Rafa Benítez has been stripped of key midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré after the Frenchman picked up a serious foot injury, with Everton now forced to deal with a central selection issue as Fabian Delph also remains unavailable and André Gomes is listed as a doubt for selection.

Richarlison could be available for selection, though attacking partner Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains sidelined.

Watford team news vs Everton

Claudio Ranieri has a trio of selection headaches as he hopes to improve Watford’s fortunes in his second match in charge, with Peter Etebo, Christian Kabasele, and Francisco Sierralta all out through injury.

Joshua King should be fit for selection after his recovery, but Nicolas Nkoulou has yet to gain full match fitness after a free transfer to the Hornets.
