Betting prediction: Everton 2 – 2 Tottenham Hotspur

The Toffees welcome Spurs to Goodison Park in Liverpool on Friday for this Premier League match.

Spurs have usually had the upper-hand in this head-to-head during the Premier League era. Their 57 meetings have seen 9 Everton wins, 27 Tottenham Hotspur wins and 21 draws.

However, Everton have won the last 2 encounters between them. They won 0-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the opening day of this season. The Toffees also won 5-4 after extra time here back in February when the sides met in the FA Cup 5th Round.

These results ended Everton’s run of consecutive games without a win in this head-to-head which stood at 15 matches, in all competitions.

Everton’s last home victory over Spurs in the Premier League came back in 2012 by a scoreline of 2-1. A repeat of this score on Friday is available at odds of 12/1.

Spurs’ last win at Goodison Park was the brilliant 2-6 match back in 2018. If you believe anything is possible, then odds of 450/1 can be found for another 8-goal thriller here on Friday.

Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur: What are the betting odds?

The Toffees are in poor form at home at the moment. Only their neighbours Liverpool have a worse record than their 5 points from the last 8 games here. Thus, they start Friday’s match as the 23/10 underdogs.

Spurs have won in 2 of their last 3 Premier League visits to Goodison Park. They start the match as the 6/5 favourites to win once again on Friday.

Four of the last six matches between these sides at Goodison Park have ended in a stalemate after 90 minutes. This includes the recent FA Cup match here which stood at 4-4 at the end of normal time. Odds of 12/5 are available if you see Everton and Spurs cancelling each other out once again.

Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur: Match preview

The season started so well for both these sides. Everton were being tipped to upset the ‘big-6’ by snatching a Champions League place. They even spent 3 matchdays as league leaders from matchdays 4 to 6.

Spurs were being talked about as serious title contenders at one point. They spent 4 matchdays as the league’s top side from matchdays 9 to 12. However, a run of 1 win in 5 matches before Christmas quietened such hopes. The run of 5 defeats in 6 games in January and February has left them scrambling just to get into Europe next season.

The reality is a total of 68 points seems the benchmark now to achieve European football next season. That means both these sides need to have a near-perfect run-in to have a chance at being in Europe next season. They can perhaps afford to drop points in just one of their next 7 or 8 games making a draw on Friday a bad result for both sides.

This is a problem for an Everton side that are without a win in any of their last 4 matches. Who face Arsenal, Villa, West Ham, and league-leaders Manchester City in their run-in. It is likewise a problem for Spurs who face Leicester, Villa, Leeds and Man City.

Which brings us to the question of whether a mid-table finish have been acceptable to either club at the start of the season? The pressure Jose Mourinho is under right now suggests the Tottenham fans are quite clear in saying it won’t be. Especially given his history of problems in his 3rd season at clubs.

The Toffees were reduced to just 12 fit and available first team players for their match against Brighton. Aside from Iwobi, their substitute bench had just 2 Premier League appearances between them.

Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s return from injury was short-lived. The 25-year-old midfielder made an 11-minute cameo against Palace in his only appearance of the season so far. He has since suffered an MCL knee contact injury during training potentially ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Yerry Mina managed just 58 minutes of the match against Brighton. He had a muscle problem on his adductor preventing him finishing the game and now looks set to be out until May.

Abdoulaye Doucoure has missed the last 4 games due to an ankle problem. Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he is due another scan in a few weeks to determine when he can return to training.

Since New Year’s Day, Bernard has made just 3 Premier League appearances for Everton. He has missed the last 3 matchday squads with an injury and no timeframe has been offered yet for his return.

Fabian Delph suffered a hamstring injury at the start of December. He was an unused sub in a few matches but has since missed out on the last 7 matchday squads with a tendon injury.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a minor groin problem causing him to miss the match against Brighton. The decision sounded precautionary from Carlo and he is expected to return to the squad here.

Jordan Pickford suffered a chest injury against Burnley causing him to miss the last 2 matches. Ancelotti has confirmed he is expected to start against Spurs.

Allan, Andre Gomes and Joshua King, who all missed the last match with minor issues, are also expected to return to the squad here.
