Without a win in their last three matches, Everton’s early-season dominance appears to have waned.

That said, the Toffees are still unbeaten at home this season in all competitions and held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in their last match at Goodison Park.

Pressure is mounting on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following back-to-back defeats. With his job potentially on the rocks, he’ll be demanding a response from his players.

Everton vs Manchester United: Match preview

Last weekend, Manchester United suffered their first league defeat at home to Arsenal since 2006. Paul Pogba gave away a second-half penalty which was dispatched by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and was enough to seal the result.

That result leaves Manchester United 15th in the table on just 7 points. They do have a game in hand over most of the sides around them. United have picked up just one point at Old Trafford so far this season.

Things went from bad to worse for United as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday night. United conceded two goals in the first half, displaying some of the poorest defending you’re ever likely to see from a Man United side. Anthony Martial pulled one back before half-time but it wasn’t enough. In spite of the loss, United remain top of their Champions League group.

You wouldn’t know it based on recent performances but Manchester United are actually on a six-match winning run away from home in the Premier League, scoring at least two goals in each of those matches.

Everton suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Newcastle on Sunday. Dominic Calvert-Lewin bagged his 11th goal of the season in second-half stoppage time. The defeat, Everton’s second in a row, leaves the Toffees 4th in the table. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have conceded two goals in each of their last four matches.

These two Premier League ever-presents have met 56 times in the competition previously, with Man United winning 36 of those and drawing a further 11.

Manchester United have failed to beat Everton in their last three attempts – including their 4-0 defeat at Goodison in April last year. However, this fixture has historically been dominated by the Red Devils, who have only of their last 12 matches against Everton.

Last season’s corresponding ended in a 1-1 draw in March. Dominic Calvert-Lewin opened the scoring early on but United drew level through Bruno Fernandes on the half-hour mark.

After dropping Jordan Pickford last weekend, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that the England goalkeeper will be back in goal on Saturday, with Robin Olsen returning to the bench.

Andre Gomes is an early doubt after picking up a “little problem” with his foot against Newcastle. Seamus Coleman is another doubt, although his call-up to the Ireland national team suggests he’s not too far away from a return.

Alex Iwobi is likely to be handed a recall, although fit-again Cenk Tosun is another attacking option for Ancelotti.
