Betting prediction: Everton 1-1 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp will demand a response from his side following their humiliating defeat before the international break.

Everton have failed to win any of their last 22 Merseyside derbies. In fact, the Toffees have managed just one goal in their last six games against Liverpool at Goodison Park.

Although recent history favours the Reds, this in-form Everton side couldn’t pick a better time to face their neighbours.

Seven of Everton’s last eight home games against Liverpool in all competitions have ended in draws.

Everton vs Liverpool: Recommended bets

Under 2.5 goals scored. Four of the last six Premier League Merseyside derbies at Goodison have ended in 0-0 draws, including each of the last three. The other two matches both produced fewer than 3 goals.

Both teams to score. Although Everton usually fail to find the back of the net against Liverpool, they look to be completely transformed this season and will definitely cause Liverpool’s backline some problems.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score. Calvert-Lewin has already scored nine goals for Everton this season and also scored on his England debut last week.

Everton vs Liverpool: Match preview

Premier League football returns this weekend following a busy international break. Everton host neighbours Liverpool at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Everton have made an incredible start to the season and begin the weekend at the top of the Premier League table. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have won 7/7 this season – four in the league and three in the Carabao Cup.

The Toffees’ superb start has seen them earn the Premier League’s monthly awards. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has scored in every league game this season, picked up the Player of the Month award, while Carlo Ancelotti won the manager’s gong.

Last time out, Everton beat Brighton 4-2 at Goodison Park. Calvert-Lewin, Yerry Mina, and James Rodriguez (2) were all on the scoresheet.

The last time Everton won their opening four Premier League matches (1969), they ended up winning the league. And while nobody is expecting a repeat of that feat, it’s clear that Everton will be challenging for a European-placed finish this season.

Everton’s brilliant form is in stark contrast to that of their Merseyside rivals. Champions Liverpool were thrashed 7-2 at Villa Park prior to the international break – one of the most shocking results in recent Premier League history.

Mohamed Salah scored two consolation goals for the Reds, his fourth and fifth league goals of the season, on a night to forget for every Liverpool fan.

The humiliating result will surely give Jurgen Klopp’s side more motivation to get a result on Saturday. A win for Liverpool would move them level on 12 points with Everton.

Saturday’s game will be the 287th Merseyside derby. The Toffees’ overall record against Liverpool reads: won 82, drawn 84 and lost 121. Everton’s last win over the Reds was a 2-0 Premier League win at Goodison Park in 2010. Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta were the goalscorers on the day.

Last season’s corresponding fixture ended in a 0-0 draw. In fact, the last three Premier League matches between the two sides at Goodison Park have finished goalless. That said, Liverpool did beat Everton 5-2 at Anfield last season.

Everton team news vs Liverpool

Carlo Ancelotti will be hoping to have Lucas Digne available. The full-back sustained an impact injury to his left knee and will be assessed ahead of Saturday.

Yerry Mina had to withdraw from the Colombia squad after picking up a hamstring problem in training. Mina is a doubt and his potential absence could see Ben Godfrey make his Everton debut.

Allan and Andre Gomes both missed out against Brighton but have recovered from their respective injuries and are available to start.

Seamus Coleman was forced off with a hamstring injury against Brighton but has also recovered.

Maston Holgate, Jonjoe Kenny, and Jarrad Branthwaite are all sidelined with ankle/foot injuries.

Jean-Philippe Gbamin is targeting his long-awaited return to action in late-November.

Cenk Tosun is a long-term absentee.

Liverpool team news vs Everton

The big news for Liverpool is that Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane are both available, having tested negative for Covid-19.

Xherdan Shaqiri has also been given the all-clear to play after subsequent Covid tests revealed his initial result was a false-positive.

Naby Keita, however, is still in isolation after testing positive.

Jordan Henderson was an unused substitute against Villa and is expected to return to the starting eleven, with one of Gini Wijnaldum or Fabinho likely to make way.

Alisson has a shoulder injury and has “no chance” of being available for Saturday. Alisson’s injury means that Adrian is set to continue in goal, despite an awful performance against Aston Villa.

Joel Matip is back in training but Saturday may come too soon for him, so Joe Gomez should continue alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Konstantinos Tsimikas remain sidelined with knee and hamstring injuries respectively.
