Everton vs Aston Villa: Match details
Match: Everton vs Aston Villa
Competition: Premier League
Date: January 22, 2022
Kick-off time: 12:30 pm, January 22, 2022 (UK time)
Stadium: Goodison Park
Betting prediction: Everton 1-2 Aston Villa
The recent record suggests that Aston Villa should at least have a good chance of picking up at least a point on their travels. Moreover, Villa are well adapted to new boss Steven Gerrard and while Rafa Benítez is finally gone from Everton, there is no telling what interim boss Duncan Ferguson can conjure up tactically – or mentally – to get the Toffees back on track in rapid order. Villa should come away with all three points here.

Everton vs Aston Villa: Recommended bets
To Score Anytime: Philippe Coutinho (3/1 odds) – Even if Philippe Coutinho does not start at Goodison Park tomorrow, his immediate and massive impact off the bench against Manchester United shows precisely what he is still capable of doing. Given Everton’s struggles of late, it would be a storybook second appearance if the former Liverpool man found the back of the net. He is a considerable goal threat and a fair shout for a bet.
Result/Total Goals: Aston Villa/Over 2.5 (10/3 odds) – Though Aston Villa has a better rub of the green when it comes to the recent meetings between these two sides, they have failed to keep Everton off the scoresheet in their last two visits to Goodison Park and with the reintroduction of the attacking duopoly of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, the Toffees should at least be able to find a goal even if they are not expected to secure a result given recent circumstances.

Everton vs Aston Villa: Match preview
Well, what can you say at Everton at this point other than there are no longer any excuses for some of the decisions coming from on high at Goodison Park in the wake of the club parting ways with Rafa Benítez. The loss of Lucas Digne to Aston Villa compounds the problem even further regarding Benítez’s second stint on Merseyside, and though it is imperative that the club get the next appointment on target, the interim solution via former Toffees striker Duncan Ferguson must find something tomorrow against a side that has already gone through a similar process this season. At the very least, ‘Big Dunc’ can call on the best strike pair the club can muster and on a tactical level, the likes of Demarai Gray and Anthony Gordon must keep the supply lines open for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. Sometimes the best way to get back on track is to keep it simple, and a bit of the old school may be on the cards for Everton.
But in stark contrast, Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa outfit is through the re-adjustment process after the former Rangers boss replaced Dean Smith and at times under the Liverpool icon have played some superb football since his arrival at Villa Park. The comeback draw against Manchester United at home was a hard-earned point that featured winter addition Philippe Coutinho; a player the likes of which Everton are unable to call upon when it comes to individual brilliance that can turn a performance around at a moments notice. His addition comes at the right time as well, with the data behind Villa’s season painting a picture of a club that should not be scoring at the rate it is, which is hardly all that notable, to begin with. Villa are currently outperforming their xGA by 6.11 goals, with their expected tally good enough for seventeenth in the Premier League. Coutinho could well be the difference maker here once again with their levels of creativity drastically increasing the minute he steps on the pitch.
Everton team news vs Aston Villa
Interim Everton boss Duncan Ferguson will be bolstered by the return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin but still has a cadre of selection headaches to contend with.
Tom Davies, Allan, and Fabian Delph are all absent through injury while Anwar El Ghazi is stripped of a debut on account of not being able to play against Aston Villa. Alex Iwobi is also out as he remains on AFCON assignment with Nigeria.
Aston Villa team news vs Everton
Steven Gerrard will be able to call on the same XI that earned a comeback draw against Manchester United last weekend, but the question remains whether or not Phillipe Coutinho will be available to start or not.
As for those that are unavailable, Villa will be without Leon Bailey and Marvelous Nakamba due to injury while Bertrand Traoré and Trézéguet are on AFCON duty. Ezri Konsa should be able to feature in the XI despite recent concerns.
