Betting prediction: Crystal Palace 0 – 2 Manchester City

The Eagles welcome Manchester City to Selhurst Park in London on Saturday for this Premier League match.

Unsurprisingly, City dominate the head-to-head in the Premier League era with 13 wins to 3. You need to go back more than 6 years to find the last Crystal Palace home win in this fixture; a winless run of 6 games in all competitions.

Despite this, the Citizens have struggled to complete a league double over Palace in recent seasons. Their last was back during the 2016/17 season when they also eliminated Crystal Palace from the FA Cup.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City: Recommended bets

The Citizens won 0-2 on their last visit to Selhurst Park. 101 Great Goals’ prediction of another Crystal Palace 0-2 Manchester City is available at odds of 6/1.

Crystal Palace’s last home victory over Manchester City was a 2-1 win back in April 2015. A repeat of this score on Saturday is available at odds of 28/1.

Manchester City demolished Palace 4-0 when the sides last met back in January. You can back them at 14/1 for the same scoreline here on Saturday.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City is usually a high scoring game with 12 of the last 15 producing over 2.5 goals. You can back another high scoring game here on Saturday with odds of 8/11 for over 2.5 goals.

Raheem Sterling hasn’t scored for City since the 0-1 win at Arsenal back in February. He is currently on a 10-game scoring drought in all competitions. Sterling was an unused substitute in Paris on Wednesday and is likely to be rotated in to start against Palace. The England international is 9/2 to score the game’s opener on Saturday. Or 5/4 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City: What are the betting odds?

Palace are on a 6-game winless run at home against Manchester City. They come into this match with just 1 home win in their last 5 Premier League matches. This sees them start the match as the 9/1 underdog to pick up all 3 points on Saturday.

City have won on 5 of their last 6 visits to Selhurst Park. They come into Saturday’s match having won each of their last 10 Premier League matches on the road. Thus, they are the odds-on favourites at 1/3 to win here.

Palace held City to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad in the last match between the sides before the COVID-19 lockdown. Odds of 4/1 are available for the sides to cancel each other out here on Saturday.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City: Match preview

Towards the end of every Premier League season, there are matches that throw up a shock result. Saturday’s match seems to have all the ingredients for such an event.

It would likely take Palace losing their 6 remaining games, coupled with Fulham playing at the level of second-placed Manchester United for the remainder of the campaign to see the Eagles get dragged into the relegation battle.

However, it is often when the pressure is off and the players approach the matches relaxed knowing that a mistake isn’t a disaster that we actually see their best performances.

Manchester City come into this likely resting most of their stars for the upcoming second leg of their Champions League semi-final. Those who do play could do so feeling jaded from the constant run of matches they are in. They may even have their mind focused on the Champions League causing them to lose focus on the task at hand.

In truth though, none of this seems likely with this Manchester City side. Abu Dhabi’s wealth means, unlike many other sides, this City side has 2 and sometimes 3 players per position who would start for almost every other side in the league.

As shown with their 4th League Cup win in a row, the second-string sides they put out do a great job of keeping their focus on the task at hand and getting the job done.

That said, Palace have found a way to get something out of City in each of the last 3 Premier League campaigns. While the odds are against them, nobody would be surprised if Roy Hodgson’s boys found a way to do so once again.

Crystal Palace team news vs Manchester City

Mamadou Sakho has missed most of the season due to injury. He has been missing since January 2nd with a strain in his left thigh.

James Tomkins will also miss out due to a fractured eye socket. He had surgery 3 months ago to repair the damage sustained in training and he now faces a race against time to be involved in Palace’s run-in.

James McArthur has been out since January due to a lower leg injury. No update on how near to a return to action yet from Roy Hodgson.

Nathan Ferguson and Connor Wickham have yet to make an appearance for Palace this season. Roy has confirmed the pair are now back in training but it could be several weeks and possibly some reserve team appearances away from a return to Premier League football. Given we are so near to the end of the season, a target of pre-season may be best for the pair.

After missing out on the previous 6 matchday squads, Nathaniel Clyne returned to the bench on Monday. He could see some minutes as a second-half substitute here.

Gary Cahill was left out of the squad against Leicester with a minor problem. He is expected to recover in time for Saturday’s game relegating Scott Dann to the bench.

Sergio Aguero

Manchester City team news vs Crystal Palace

Philippe Sandler is the only injury concern for Manchester City coming into this match. The 24-year-old central defender had ankle surgery in the summer effectively ruling him out for the entire campaign.

John Stones is the only member of the first-team squad who is ruled out at the weekend. The central defender is suspended following his red card against Aston Villa in City’s last league match. Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Aké are competing for the chance to partner Ruben Dias in defence.

Kevin De Bruyne has started just 1 of City’s last 4 league matches. Having played back-to-back games against Spurs and PSG, it is likely he will be rested once again here with one eye on the upcoming UEFA Champions League Semi-Final 2nd leg against PSG.

Sergio Agüero was left out of the Citizens’ last 2 matchday squads in the league. The forward was also an unused substitute in Paris on Wednesday. Pep may look to include Aguero here to help him find some match sharpness. Although Bernardo, Torres, Sterling, Jesus and Mahrez all appear ahead of him in the pecking order now.
