Betting prediction: Chelsea 2-0 West Brom
Chelsea has yet to taste defeat under Thomas Tuchel since his first match in charge in the Blues’ 0-0 draw with Wolves in his touchline debut. That run is expected to continue here, and with West Brom improving at the back in comparison to the first half of the season, they should avoid a complete drubbing but aren’t expected to take anything on their travels.
Chelsea vs West Brom: Recommended bets
To Score First: Olivier Giroud
This is predicated on the French international starting up front in place of Timo Werner who continues to struggle, but the big Frenchman could be the perfect tonic against a deep block considering his aerial prowess and ability to capitalize off service either through the run of play or on set-pieces. If he gets the nod, his influence should be considerable.
Correct Score: Chelsea 2-0
Despite their incredible form since the Tuchel regime has taken hold, Chelsea still has not put in the performances in the final third that are commensurate with the quality they possess throughout the squad regarding their attacking options. We may not see them at their consistent best in that area until next term after Tuchel has had more than enough time to shake the tree a bit more, but they should still be capable of bagging a few goals here while keeping the Baggies quiet at the other end.

Chelsea vs West Brom: Match preview
Chelsea has been immeasurably better since the mid-season appointment of former Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel after sacking Frank Lampard in late January. Undefeated in all competitions under the German tactician (10-4-0), their clash with West Brom this weekend and an upcoming date with Crystal Palace – sandwiched between both legs of their Champions League quarterfinal date with FC Porto – set the Blues up to continue to be the frontrunner for the fourth and final place in next years headline European competition.
What is perhaps a little frightening for non-Chelsea supporters is the notion that – despite their run of form under Tuchel – they are still not the best version of themselves. The prospect of further improvement this season – and almost certainly next term once Tuchel truly sinks his teeth into the club – should make the Stamford Bridge faithful rather confident.
There is still some justifiable criticism to be levied, though the need to remain measured would be prudent. Summer signings Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, and Hakim Ziyech have all struggled to truly settle to live on new shores after completing high profile – and high expectation – moves from RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, and AFC Ajax respectively. Ziyech has only contributed four goals to Chelsea’s cause all season in less than 900-minutes of football; a far cry from his effectiveness both at home and abroad when deployed for the Dutch giants. Werner remains the most frustrating of the three, though. Once – and maybe still – considered one of the most lethal forwards in Europe, he has found the back of the net just five times for his new employers and is on course for his worse goal return in league play since 2015-16 while at boyhood club VfB Stuttgart. Despite having the highest goal involvement of any Chelsea player this season both in the Premier League and combined through all competition, much more was – and is – expected of the German hitman from the club and certainly from himself.
One bright spot has been the improvement of Kai Havertz since Tuchel’s arrival, however. He too struggled to adapt post-his summer move, while contracting Covid-19 hardly did him any favors in a bid to find some measure of an acceptable performance level. But since his recovery, he has continued to trend in the right trajectory and many – including fellow German national teammate Ilkay Gündogan – expect him to show his quality as time progresses. If just one of these players hits a level they are capable of, Chelsea will hardly struggle to continue to get results under Tuchel. If all three manage to? Well, then the league could be in for something special.

West Brom are in a tailspin they cannot recover from
It is a rare occurrence when the club with the worst defensive record in the Premier League goes on to successfully avoid relegation. When that same side also is incapable of finding goals to offset the deficiencies suffered at the back, the final nail is placed long before the season comes to an end. In the case of West Brom, many have tipped them to go down since the early days of the season and their inability to right the wrongs on the pitch under Sam Allardyce has – baring a miracle – all but likely consigned them to play Championship football next season.
With just one win in their last six and three across the entirety of the Premier League program this campaign, there is hardly anything to write home about when it comes to the Baggies performances this term. Many can – and will – point to the level of play exhibited by Matheus Pereira, how quickly January loan-signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles settled while on sabbatical from Arsenal, or the clear potential that another loanee in Chelsea’s Connor Gallagher possesses, but there is little else to sit back and smile about for the West Midlands outfit.
Allardyce has poured more fuel on the fire recently as well, stating that his intentions on remaining with the club after their likely relegation would solely depend on how serious the brass is about fighting for promotion back to the top flight as quickly as possible. Almost certainly, that will call into question the club’s willingness to fund the rebuilding program of the first-team squad needed to push immediately.
At current, there is a painful lack of creativity and goalscoring prowess in the team. Pereira will almost certainly be poached by a bigger club – either in England or abroad – if relegation is confirmed, and it is unclear if Maitland-Niles or Gallagher will want a return to the club in the summer if they are not fighting in the English top flight. Sitting ten points adrift of safety and with Chelsea, Leicester City, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool, and West Ham still to come starting at the weekend, The Hawthorns will surely have to say goodbye to Premier League football once more unless Allardyce can conjure performances akin to his formidable Bolton Wanderers sides of yesteryear.

Chelsea team news vs West Brom
There are no guaranteed absences for Thomas Tuchel to content with coming into the weekend, but the German headmaster does have a handful of question marks across the first-team squad.
Doubts surround the availability of Thiago Silva, Jorginho, N’Golo Kanté, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Tammy Abraham.
West Brom team news vs Chelsea
Inter Miami-bound Kieran Gibbs is the only concern for Sam Allardyce as he prepares to clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, though he is expected to not feature.
Connor Gallagher will be unavailable as well, unable to feature against his parent club given his loan agreement.
