Chelsea vs Crystal Palace: Recommended bets
Chelsea have conceded 86 goals in 60 games under Frank Lampard.
Both teams to score is 4/5.
Chelsea to win and both teams to score is 2/1.
Timo Werner, who scored his first goal for the club on Tuesday, is 3/1 to open the scoring again and 19/20 to net anytime.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace: Match preview
Chelsea’s underwhelming start to the season continues.
Last weekend, they were catastrophically bad in the first half and found themselves 3-0 down to West Bromwich Albion at the break.
Goals from Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham, the latter coming in the 93rd minute, rescued a point for Chelsea at the Hawthorns.
Even so, that second half fightback very much papered over the cracks.
This means the Blues have four points from their first three games following a 3-1 win at Brighton & Hove Albion and a 2-0 home reverse against Liverpool.
The mood will not have improved on Tuesday night though as Frank Lampard’s side bowed out of the Carabao Cup.
Despite going ahead early through Timo Werner, a late equaliser saw the tie at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finish 1-1.
It went to penalties with the first nine all converted with Abraham, César Azpilicueta, Jorginho and Emerson Palmieri all scoring for Chelsea.
Last up though, Mason Mount, clipped the outside of the post and it was Spurs who progressed.
Of course, the League Cup is not Chelsea’s main priority this season but losing to a London rival can’t have helped lift spirits.
Can they get back to winning ways in the Premier League in another all London affair?
Can Crystal Palace cause an upset at the Bridge?
As for Crystal Palace, they make the 8.6-mile journey northwest above their hosts in the table.
Palace started a top-flight season with back to back wins for the first time ever.
First, Wilfried Zaha scored the only goal as they defeated Southampton 1-0 at Selhurst Park.
Then, Zaha bagged a brace as they beat his former team Manchester United 3-1 at Old Trafford.
Roy Hodgson’s side though could not make it three out of three last weekend, narrowly losing 2-1 at home to Everton.
Nevertheless, the Eagles have made a very good start.
They’ve also had a week to prepare for this daunting fixture having been knocked out the Carabao Cup by Bournemouth in round two, losing 11-10 on penalties.
This extra rest could help them in their bid to cause an upset.
Although, win away at big opponents is often what the Eagles do.
Since 1 April 2017, they’ve won at the Emirates, Old Trafford twice, Anfield, the Etihad and Stamford Bridge.
Can they end a run of five successive defeats in this fixture?
Chelsea team news vs Crystal Palace
Frank Lampard named a pretty strong side for Tuesday’s League Cup tie at Tottenham so it’ll be interesting to see how many keep their spots.
In goal, Édouard Mendy made his debut in midweek after joining from Stade Rennais for £22 million.
The Senegalese international will keep his place ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga, who cost considerably more, and Willy Caballero.
At left-back, Ben Chilwell also made his full debut at Spurs and is likely to start once more ahead of Emerson Palmieri and out of favour Marcos Alonso.
On the other side, Reece James is likely to return in place of club captain César Azpilicueta.
In the middle, Thiago Silva did captain the side at the Hawthorns, despite the fact that was his first Premier League appearance.
He and Andreas Christensen are likely to be the centre-back pairing again with Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori, who started on Tuesday, making way.
Antonio Rüdiger, who started 26 of the 32 games he was available for last season, hasn’t featured at all this season and is set to leave before Monday’s deadline.
In midfield, N’Golo Kanté is likely to return alongside Mateo Kovačić.
Jorginho started in the Carabao Cup and looks set to stay despite speculation about his future.
Further forward, following their summer spending spree, Lampard has a plethora of options.
Mason Mount could start once more, as will Kai Havertz, and Callum Hudson-Odoi could also return to the XI.
Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are currently injured; Ruben Loftus-Cheek hasn’t played since the opening day.
Ross Barkley joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan on Wednesday.
In attack, Hudson-Odoi’s return could see Timo Werner start in his preferred centre-forward position.
Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud would be left on the bench.
Can Chelsea kick start their season?
Crystal Palace team news vs Chelsea
As for Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson has only made one change to his starting XI in their first three and won’t change much here either.
Vicente Guaita has already made 11 saves in the Premier League so far, only two goalkeepers have made more.
In front of him, Cheikhou Kouyaté, who scored a week ago, is likely to continue to cover at centre-back alongside Mamadou Sakho.
Jaïro Riedewald is the only other available centre-back as Scott Dann, James Tomkins and Gary Cahill are out.
Cahill, who made 290 appearances for Chelsea winning eight major trophies, is unlikely to be fit enough for a return.
Joel Ward will keep his place at right-back with 21-year-old Tyrick Mitchell continuing on the other side in place of Patrick van Aanholt, who is another absentee.
In midfield, James McArthur and James McCarthy will continue their partnership.
Palace is the fourth different club they’ve played together at after Hamilton Academical, Wigan Athletic and Everton.
These two are currently keeping club captain Luka Milivojević on the bench.
Out-wide, Andros Townsend will continue on the right.
The only change from last Saturday could be on the left where the more defensively solid Jeffrey Schlupp could displace summer arrival from Queens Park Rangers Eberechi Eze.
In attack, Wilfried Zaha will continue to partner Jordan Ayew.
Christian Benteke will be on the bench while Michy Batshuayi is ineligible to play against his parent club.
