Aston Villa picked up another win on Boxing Day and arrive at Stamford Bridge with some incredible away form behind them. They have won five of their last six matches on the road.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa: Match preview
Chelsea’s final match of 2020 sees them welcome Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge on Monday.
Aston Villa moved above Chelsea on Boxing Day following their 3-0 home win over Crystal Palace. Bertrand Traore opened the scoring but Villa were reduced to 10 men before the break. Their numerical disadvantage had little impact on them. A scrappy goal from Kortney Hause and a delicious strike from Anwar El-Ghazi gave Villa a 3-0 win.
Villa ended Boxing Day 6th in the table, level on 25 points with Chelsea, Spurs and Southampton. Crucially, however, Villa have played one or two games fewer than the sides around them.
Chelsea lost 3-1 away to struggling Arsenal on Boxing Day. The Blues were 3-0 down before Tammy Abraham reduced the deficit. A late comeback looked possible when Chelsea were awarded a penalty, but Jorginho’s spot-kick was saved by Bernd Leno.
Chelsea’s form is poor
Chelsea have now lost three of their last four league matches. Despite their recent form, and being 7th in the table, Chelsea are only two points off of a top four spot, and just four points off 2nd.
Chelsea boast the second-best home record in the league this season. They have won four, drawn two, and lost one of their seven matches at Stamford Bridge, scoring 17 goals in the process.
Aston Villa have only conceded two goals away from home all season, which is by far the best away defensive record. Overall, Villa’s away form ranks 4th in the league, with five wins and one defeat from six matches on the road.
Chelsea and Aston Villa have faced each other 50 times in the Premier League. Chelsea have won just over half of those (26), losing 12 and drawing 12 against the Villains.
The Blues have a solid recent record against Villa, winning each of their last six matches against them in all competitions.
Chelsea beat Villa 2-1 at Villa Park in their most recent encounter in June. Kortney Hause opened the scoring before a quick-fire double from Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud gave Chelsea a come-from-behind win.

Chelsea team news vs Aston Villa
Frank Lampard will be considering wholesale changes and he certainly has the squad to do that.
Having only recently recovered from a knee problem, and after giving away a penalty against Arsenal, Reece James may get a rest, meaning Cesar Azpilicueta should start at right-back.
35-year-old Thiago Silva is another who may need a rest, so one of Antonio Rudiger or Andreas Christensen should partner Kurt Zouma.
Despite missing a penalty against Arsenal, Jorginho could come in for Mateo Kovacic in midfield.
Callum Hudson-Odoi created Chelsea’s goal at the Emirates and should replace Christian Pulisic in the starting eleven. Kai Havertz could also be handed a recall.
There could also make a change up top with Olivier Giroud possibly replacing Tammy Abraham. Meanwhile, Timo Werner has now failed to score in his last 10 appearances.
Hakim Ziyech should recover from a muscle injury to feature on the bench.
Tammy Abraham is in contention to face his former club. Abraham scored 25 league goals during his loan spell at Villa in the 2018-19 season.

Aston Villa team news vs Chelsea
Tyrone Mings misses out through suspension following his red card against Crystal Palace. Ezri Konsa is set to partner Kortney Hause at centre-back.
Ross Barkley is struggling with a hamstring injury but is ineligible to face his parent club in any case.
Bertrand Traore is set to face his former club. Having opened the scoring against Palace, the 25-year-old was sacrificed in first-half stoppage time following Mings’ sending off. Traore scored two goals in 10 Premier League appearances during his time at the Blues.
Given the quick turnaround time between matches, Dean Smith may consider further rotation. Jacob Ramsey and Frederic Guilbert are available options.
Wesley and Trezeguet are still sidelined.
