Though they have drawn their last five fixtures at Turf Moor, Burnley has found more goals in the back of the cupboard lately. A 2-1 win at Everton earned Sean Dyche’s men a valuable three points, and though they lost 3-2 last weekend at Southampton, the Clarets have potentially found somewhat of a purple patch for themselves in the final third. By comparison, Newcastle is able to finally welcome back Callum Wilson back into the fold and are coming off a credible 2-2 draw against Tottenham. With four draws from their last five, the possibility of picking something up on their travels is a decent one.

Burnley vs Newcastle United: Recommended bets

To Score Anytime: Callum Wilson

Ladies and gentlemen, he’s back. At least in training, anyway. Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce confirmed that the England international has been back in training for a week, putting him straight into contention to be included in the Magpies’ matchday XI for their away day at Turf Moor. And even if he is not given a run out from the start, his goals in a substitute capacity would still be a massive boost to the St. James’ Park outfit.

Result/Both Teams to Score: Draw – Yes

Despite both Burnley and Newcastle in a fight for their Premier League lives, the bottom-half pair are not out of the woods yet. Goals remain at a premium for both clubs as well, and though the Magpies can now welcome back Callum Wilson into the fold, both sides sit in the bottom-five in the league in terms of goal return. With Newcastle drawing four of their last five, and Burnley winning just one in the same period, a scoring draw would not be difficult to see.

Burnley vs Newcastle United: Match preview

There is not much more to say when it comes to Burnley other than what has been said in the past. Stubborn when defending and difficult to break down under Sean Dyche, the well-drilled Turf Moor outfit remain solid in terms of their ability to frustrate their opposition on any given day. But with just 24-goals-scored in 30 Premier League fixtures, at current, Dyche’s men remain one of the most frustrating sides to watch when it comes to their inability to find goals.

That has not been the case lately, however, with Burnley bagging four in their last two fixtures. If their typical stubborn ways at the back held firm, the two they found against Southampton would have likely been enough to see them ten points clear of 18th-placed Fulham. Instead, they are just seven points above the drop zone and in a position where every single point they can squeeze out of the rest of the season will be considered absolutely vital.

But Fulham succumbing to a late Adama Traoré strike that saw Wolves grab all three points at Craven Cottage on Friday night gives Burnley hope that their long-term future in the English top-flight has yet another year to potentially come to fruition. Burnley has only lost twice of late as well, and they remain a side that can be very difficult to take all three points from. If they can find some goals against Newcastle – unlike in the three draws they have clawed out recently – valuable points can be taken.

Not a moment too soon for Callum Wilson’s return

Leading goalscorer Callum Wilson’s return to fitness and his likely upcoming selection for Steve Bruce’s matchday XI could not have come at a more critical time for Newcastle as the Magpies fight tooth and nail to save their season from another relegation. At current, the Tyneside outfit is just three points clear of Fulham, though after the Cottagers suffered late heartbreak against Wolves on Friday, Bruce will be thankful for the two matches in hand he has in his back pocket.

Newcastle is coming off a good result against Tottenham at home when they drew the European hopefuls 2-2 at St. James’ Park even without the services of Wilson. But the England internationals ten goals and five assists in 21-appearances arrive during a period where the Magpies face a run-in of fixtures that reads like something out of a Stephen King novel. Three points against Burnley would be a vital point haul; in its wake, Newcastle must contend with West Ham United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester City, and Manchester City. There are not many who can look at that run of five fixtures and expect Bruce’s men to pick up many – if any – points at all.

The inclusion of Wilson against Burnley would at least give Newcastle a fighting chance at getting a strong result before their horrific run. The potential saving grace comes in the final two weeks of the season when Newcastle squares off against both Sheffield United and Fulham. Results are likely to come at a premium, but getting Wilson back up and running could be the key difference between safety and relegation as the northeast of England clings to Premier League football.

Burnley team news vs Newcastle United

Sean Dyche will be without both Robbie Brady and Ashley Barnes when Burnley looks to heap more misery on Newcastle at Turf Moor.

Erik Pieters is doubtful after coming off injured against Southampton last weekend, while Kevin Long is also a question mark for selection.

Newcastle United team news vs Burnley

Steve Bruce is guaranteed to be without four key figures for their trip to Burnley, with Jamaal Lascelles, Isaac Hayden, Fabian Schär, and Ryan Fraser all out for Newcastle.

Callum Wilson is finally expected to make his full return after coming back to training, while Federico Fernández is also expected to be available for selection. Andy Carroll could play a part off the bench but still needs to be assessed.
