Betting prediction: Burnley 1 – 2 Leicester City

Burnley welcome Leicester to Turf Moor in Burnley on Saturday for this Premier League match.

The Foxes have the upper hand in the head-to-head, with six wins to Burnley’s three, from their 13 encounters in the Premier League. Although, home advantage could be crucial for the Clarets here given that all three of their Premier League victories have come at Turf Moor and lead Leicester 3-2 in victories here.

Burnley come into this match on a three-game winless run in this head-to-head and just one win in the last seven Premier League games between the sides.

Burnley vs Leicester City: Recommended bets

Leicester have won on just one of their last five visits to Turf Moor. That victory was a 1-2 win here back in 2019. 101 Great Goals’ prediction for this match is another Burnley 1 – 2 Leicester City and is available at odds of 10/1.

2-1 Burnley win. Burnley’s last home victory over Leicester City came back in 2020 by a scoreline of 2-1. A repeat of this score on Saturday is available at odds of 12/1.

1-1 draw. The last time these sides met at Turf Moor the match ended in a 1-1 draw in March 2021. Odds of 7/1 are available if you see this match finishing with the same result.

Over 2.5 goals. Burnley vs Leicester City matches lately have been high scoring games with five of the last six producing over 2.5 goal games. You can back another high scoring game here on Saturday with odds of 1.9/1 for over 2.5 goals.

Ayoze Pérez Goalscorer. Ayoze (above) is yet to find the net in his seven league appearances for the Foxes this season. However, with few fit and available options in attack due to injury and international commitments, he is expected to lead the line here and is the favourite of the boys in blue to get on the scoresheet. The Spaniard is 7.5/1 to score the game’s opener on Saturday. Or 3/1 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Burnley.

Burnley vs Leicester City: What are the betting odds?

The Clarets are 3.1/1 to make it four home wins in six in this head-to-head by taking all three points from Leicester City on Saturday.

Whereas, the Foxes are 2.25/1 to get their 2nd away win in their last eight matches on the road by picking up an away win at Turf Moor.

Odds of 3.4/1 are available if you see Burnley and Leicester City cancelling each other out for the third consecutive draw in this head-to-head.

Burnley vs Leicester City: Match preview

With just one win all season, many are starting to feel that this year is the one that relegation finally catches up with Burnley.

The comparisons to Stoke and West Brom in the Premier League have been made by many, with most feeling their aggressive defending, direct approach to attacking and reliance on set-pieces making them the modern-day equivalent of Tony Pulis’ Stoke.

At 40%, they have the highest ratio of set-piece goals of the goals they have scored this season compared to all Premier League sides. Of the players expected to start here, only Matthew Lowton has a goal in open play in the Premier League this season. Matej Vydra, should he get the nod to start only his third Premier League game, would add a second.

This could make Burnley a bad matchup for a Leicester side that has famously struggled with set-pieces under Rodgers. They currently have the most goals against from set-pieces this season with 11.

With none of the first choice attacking players available to either side on Saturday, this match will likely be decided by goals from other areas of the pitch. This is where Leicester have a distinct advantage. Burnley have just 15 goals this season with 11 of them coming from players in the central forward position, including one from Lennon in a rare outing there. Their midfield has yet to weigh in with a goal this season.

In contrast, James Maddison (above) and Youri Tielemans already have five goals apiece this season from midfield with Harvey Barnes, Çaglar Söyüncü, Jonny Evans and Marc Albrighton also chipping in. Four of Ademola Lookman’s goals this season have also come while playing as an attacking midfielder or on the wing.

The makeshift starting line-ups from both teams will likely make this game a closer one than many are expecting based on Burnley’s form this season. However, unlike the 2-2 draw in Leicester back in September, we think the Foxes will just edge it this time.

Chris Wood

Burnley team news vs Leicester City

Chris Wood (above) may have made his final appearance for Burnley. He was struggling to be fit for this match after suffering a knock. However, with news that Newcastle United could be looking to activate his release clause, he may be a Magpie before this weekend’s round of games.

With Maxwel Cornet missing the game due to his involvement in the African Cup of Nations and Ashley Barnes also injured, Burnley are short in the forward department with only Jay Rodríguez and Matej Vydra available as recognised central forwards.

Connor Roberts is also ruled out with illness but is nearing a return to first-team action, while Johann Berg Gudmundsson is also rated at 50-50 after picking up a knock against Leeds in the Clarets’ first match of 2022.

Leicester City team news vs Burnley

The Foxes probably have the longest list of absentees in world football right now.

Kelechi Iheanacho, Nampalys Mendy, Daniel Amartey, and Wilfred Ndidi are all involved in the African Cup of Nations for their respective countries, while Boubakary Soumare and Luke Thomas are also ruled out as they recover from recent illnesses.

Jonny Evans and Jamie Vardy are both on the long-term injury list with hamstring injuries which should keep them out for a couple of months at the minimum and with Ricardo Pereira also going down injured against Liverpool, they are fully stretched, with Wesley Fofana, Ryan Bertrand and James Justin long-term absentees.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Timothy Castagne, Caglar Soyuncu, and Patson Daka all face late fitness tests on muscle injuries to be involved on Sunday.
