Burnley vs Leeds United betting tips: Preview, predictions & odds

Safe and secure in the Premier League for the 2021-22 campaign, Burnley can now sit back and fully assess the current term and what course they intend to set moving forward. Visiting outfit Leeds United sit tenth in the table at the moment in what has been a strong opening return to the English top-flight, and a win would see them back in the hunt for something more while distancing themselves from Aston Villa.

Betting prediction: Burnley 0-1 Leeds United

Now officially safe for another season, Burnley can – in theory – coast for the rest of term as they prepare for an important summer ahead. Having failed to register a single win at Turf Moor in their last eight home fixtures (0-5-3), there is little scope to expect them to reverse their fortunes on the back of little motivation to push. Leeds United, however, is in with a fight to finish in the top half after their reintroduction to the Premier League, and could even push into a top seven or eight finish if results go their way. It may not be a high-scoring affair, but Leeds has a good shot at running out winners on their travels at the weekend.

Burnley vs Leeds United: Recommended bets

Result/Both Teams to Score: Leeds United – No

Despite their issues at the back this season overall, Leeds United has been improved at the back of late. In conjunction with their ability to find goals and the persistent struggles, Burnley has gone through all season to find them on their end (they average less than a goal-per-match), that could be enough for Marcelo Bielsa’s men to garner a hard-earned 3-point-haul on the road.

To Score First: Patrick Bamford

Sitting on 15-goals for the season and a very good return for his club, Patrick Bamford remains the most potent goal-scorer in the Leeds United arsenal. The goals have not come as regularly at the moment, however, and though he scored in the 3-1 win against Tottenham, it was six matches that it took to get back on the scoresheet. Against a determined Burnley backline, Bamford is still a threat, especially when the tricky Raphinha is capable of a little magic to make things uncomfortable at the back.

Burnley vs Leeds United: Match preview

“It’s been tough but my overriding pleasure is in a group of people that give everything. I said when I got here that there’ll be a group of players who will give everything and there’ll be sweat on the shirt. They have given everything, these players give a lot, they give a lot to us as a staff and they give a lot to the club and the fans.

I’m incredibly proud of their achievement this season because it’s tough when you’ve got two points after seven games in the Premier League. There was a lot of work that needed to be done to turn that around and we’ve done that. It is nice to preserve your status, particularly given the journey we have been on. To continue in the Premier League is very pleasing for me, my staff, the players, the new owners and of course the fans. There are three games left now, shoulders back and let’s see where we can go with it.” – Sean Dyche

It is no small achievement by Burnley and manager Sean Dyche after they were confirmed safe from relegation and guaranteed their sixth season in the top flight of English football. Given the system deployed by Dyche at Turf Moor and the genuine lack of individual brilliance apart from the budding Dwight McNeil, it has been utterly imperative that the Clarets remain staunch in their collective determination and belief, and that has paid off so far.

But this is a summer where more is needed, and perhaps maybe the notion that Burnley does not have to look over their shoulder at the prospect of the drop will do them a world of good as their preparations to move forward with the club can start in earnest before the summer break. With discussions and assurances that a plan to fund much-needed summer business will be a real focus in the summer, the future looks – at least for the time being – to be in decent hands for a 2021-22 campaign that could once again find the Clarets remain amongst the English elite.

Leeds United can – and should – expect to improve moving into next season

“Anyone who has seen our games this season knows how intense they are. It’s constantly back and forth and we give full throttle for 90 minutes. For the spectator, it’s very entertaining. For us players, it also requires a lot of strength and stamina. Training under Marcelo Bielsa is therefore also very special, but I am sure that it makes us all better players. I definitely see a further development in me personally this season. Passing and build-up play, overall playing with the ball is very important for us and of course we train that way. So I think it’s already the case that I’ve improved in that again here at Leeds.”  – Robin Koch

Leeds United announced their return to the Premier League in style before a single ball was kicked in anger when they undertook a very impressive summer spending program that saw them add much-needed quality to the team; moves that paid off handsomely. Much of the same is expected this summer as the brain trust of director of football Victor Orta and manager Marcelo Bielsa put their head together and find ways to push the club forward into a position to challenge for a top-seven place once more. One of those brilliant signings Leeds made this past summer was German international center back and former SC Freiburg standout Robin Koch.

Highly touted during his years with the Black Forest club, the 24-year-old son of Kaiserslautern has settled to life in Yorkshire despite a rough start to his career at Elland Road, but attributes his progression on and off the pitch to his boss. Since his arrival in England, Leeds United has improved year on year under the Argentine, and that is certainly a trend that players, staff, and supporters alike will hope can continue. A three-point haul at Burnley on Saturday would put Bielsa’s men back in with a late surge to push for a place much higher than anyone would have expected coming into the season.

Burnley team news vs Leeds United

Sean Dyche will be thankful that almost all of the first-team squad is fit for duty when Burnley clashes with Leeds United at Turf Moor at the weekend.

Robbie Brady and Kevin Long are the only options unavailable, and though safety for next season has been achieved, Dyche could still field his best-possible XI in the hopes of closing out the campaign from a point of strength.

Leeds United team news vs Burnley

Marcelo Bielsa will look to set Leeds United up for a late-season push as high up the table as possible and will be grateful that he may not have to change much from the side that beat Tottenham 3-1 last time out.

Hélder Costa and Adam Foreshaw will not feature, while Liam Cooper may make the matchday squad if he passes a late assessment. One of Robin Koch or Pascal Struijk will start at center back alongside Diego Llorente with the expected reintroduction of Kalvin Phillips into the matchday XI.
