Betting prediction: Burnley 0-1 Arsenal

It was hardly a perfect performance for Arsenal last weekend against Norwich in their 1-0 win, but it was a badly needed three-point haul after three successive losses to start the season. A similar result could result at Turf Moor when the Gunners visit Burnley; a side that historically frustrates the north London outfit who have hardly come into the season firing. Burnley have only beaten Arsenal once in their previous six meetings, but has earned draws in their last two meetings, so this could be a tight affair here.

Burnley vs Arsenal: Match preview

Burnley in the thick of the relegation battle to start the season

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Burnley have begun the 2021-22 Premier League campaign near the cellar after another disappointing summer that saw the club spend over £30 million on three additions, but do little to improve their attacking situation.

Subsequently, the Clarets have yet to secure a three-point haul, but maybe can be let off by the fact that three of their opponents thus far have come by way of Leeds United, Liverpool, and Everton.

It has not been entirely doom and gloom, however, as Burnley took the lead against Brighton and Everton, but second-half capitulations in both fixtures stripped their chances of taking anything on the day. A 1-1 draw against Leeds is indeed a credible point, and the table could read very differently for the Turf Moor outfit if they had kept their tactical wits about themselves.

Arsenal have been a source of points for Burnley recently as well, with the newly extended Sean Dyche earning two successive draws against the Gunners in their recent meetings, and the onus will certainly be on Mikel Arteta’s troops to find something in a match they’re expected to dominate. Any points here would go a long way to pushing Burnley into some semblance of form.

Valuable three points to motivate Arsenal for similar result to reverse fortunes

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta remains under the gun by many sections of the Gunners fan base despite the club picking up their first three-point haul last weekend against Norwich. The angst is understandable in context, after the club shelled-out a cool £140 million this summer on six acquisitions, but started the season with three losses on the spin until a halfway decent performance against the Canaries ended the slide before it got completely out of control.

Club legend Ian Wright leapt to the defense of Arteta in a message to fans, urging for patience and to back the manager through the current period. But the fact still remains that there are growing expectations for the club to push forward in the current campaign not only in the wake of their summer recruitment program, but after a disappointing 2020-21 season that fell short of European qualification while Arsenal spent a considerable period in the bottom half of the table.

Few – if any – had Arsenal taking points off either Manchester City or Chelsea out of the blocks to begin the season, but an opening weekend loss to Thomas Frank’s Brentford set the tone right out of the gate that this season was hardly going to be a cake walk. With just the single goal for their efforts through four fixtures, a three-point haul at Turf Moor is vital with the critical North London Derby around the corner against a Tottenham outfit that lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace last weekend, and will go toe-to-toe with Chelsea on Sunday.

Burnley team news vs Arsenal

Burnley boss Sean Dyche will be hopeful of securing three points against Arsenal in the wake of signing an extension on his terms at Turf Moor, but will have a few selection headaches to contend with.

The trio of Dale Stephens, Kevin Long, and Connor Roberts are all sure to miss out on proceedings through injury, while Nathan Collins faces a race to gain fitness to be included in the match day squad.

Arsenal team news vs Burnley

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners finally secured their first three-point haul of the season against Norwich last weekend and will look to make it two on the spin with the North London Derby around the corner.

The Arsenal boss will be without Granit Xhaka as he continues serving his three-match ban following a sending off against Manchester City, while Mohamed Elneny is unavailable through injury. Arteta should once again turn to a midfield pairing of Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sambi Lokonga, though it was confirmed that Thomas Partey is close to his full return.
