Betting prediction: Brighton 1-0 Crystal Palace

Brighton’s undefeated run in the league sees them with a real opportunity to get one over Crystal Palace at the Amex Stadium, especially with the continued absence of Wilfried Zaha. Palace has yet to score since the Ivorian got injured, and despite Brighton’s inability to consistently find joy in the final third, they should have enough in the tank to pick up another valuable three points.

Brighton vs Crystal Palace: Recommended bets

Result/Both Teams to Score: Brighton – No

This one is tricky. Even without Zaha, Crystal Palace does have enough ability on paper to find a goal from somewhere, but current data suggests otherwise. As for Brighton, they have five clean sheets in their last six Premier League outings and should remain with their preferred front-three attacking players in the XI. Brighton to narrowly take this one.

Halftime/Full-Time: Draw – Brighton

It’s hard to see this as a goal-scoring thriller, and for Brighton, it does not need to be. Keeping faith in what has worked during their undefeated run makes the most sense right now, and a Palace-side that is anemic without Zaha in the lineup means, at the very least, Graham Potter could earn a draw though he will undoubtedly want more given the look of the table.

Brighton vs Crystal Palace: Match preview

You could make the case that Brighton has forgotten themselves and dressed up in cosplay recently given the type of run they are on, but that would be disrespectful to a club and a manager that are quite capable of stringing this together. Graham Potter‘s Seagulls remain one of the in-form sides in the Premier League of late, going 3-3-0 in their last six fixtures while keeping an impressive five clean sheets during that period.

These types of performances are what many on the south coast would have expected to see under Potter, who built a reputation for overachieving during his time at Östersunds in Sweden while simply getting the best out of a unified group of players. For Potter, it is all about a unified vision and approach both on and off the pitch, and despite the injury bug his squad has had to endure in recent weeks, Brighton’s run of form can likely be traced to said-unification at the club.

Results against Liverpool, Tottenham, and Leeds United stand testament to their ability to take something off the bigger boys. However, their draws against tamer sides in Fulham and Burnley show that their levels potentially drop off when they are perhaps seen as the favourite on the day. That is hardly doom and gloom, but with the Seagulls only four points clear of the drop zone despite their run of form, keeping their performance levels at a consistent rate in the coming weeks is vital to their survival in the top flight of English football. This could be just a taste of what the club can do in the long term if they can truly build solid foundations in the Premier League.

No Wilfried Zaha for Crystal Palace is a bridge too far

When you are meant to find results when you are stripped of your talismanic figure, things are never easy even for the biggest clubs in the world. When you’re Crystal Palace and Wilfried Zaha is unavailable, the difficulty level assigned to your task at hand triples. This fact is exacerbated by Palace’s inability to squeeze creativity out of the side without the Ivorian winger, and much of that is attributed to Roy Hodgson being the man in charge.

At their best, Palace is a side that can – and has shown themselves to be – ruthless when direct and catching their opposition on the break. In Zaha, they have one of the league’s most effective players when being direct, and when you add Eberechi Eze to that, that is a dangerous duo to come to grips with. But the bigger issue is what Palace can be when they’re not deployed in their most effective image, and without Zaha, their ability to be truly effective on the break diminishes considerably.

Andros Townsend just is not nearly as effective as Zaha in this arena, and for a side who is better at being direct than any other tactical avenue, having target men up front in the forward channels, there is somewhat of a tactical disconnect. For a side like Palace, however, playing your best players in your preferred XI is always the best option, but the shoe then must drop on Hodgson to make the required adjustments to make sure all the pieces fit and can align. Given the Eagles’ inability to be a consistent goal threat without Zaha, it’s clear that alignment has yet to be truly seen. Should they lose to Brighton on Monday, Palace will only be seven points clear of the drop zone, with Fulham in a richer vein of form of late. Things could become interesting very soon at Selhurst Park if adjustments aren’t made.

Brighton team news vs Crystal Palace

Graham Potter remains without the quintet of José Izquierdo, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Florin Andone, Tariq Lamptey, and Solly March.

Adam Lallana and Danny Welbeck have both recently returned and should add some options for Potter.

Adam Webster could also be back in contention and if he passes fit, is almost certain to start.

Crystal Palace team news vs Brighton

Crystal Palace still has a laundry list of players unavailable for Roy Hodgson to call upon. Wilfried Zaha, Mamadou Sakho, Jeffrey Schlupp, Connor Wickham, James Tomkins, James MacArthur, Wayne Hennessey, and Nathan Ferguson all remain out.

James McCarthy has returned to training, however, but may not feature.
