Brentford welcomes Arsenal to the Brentford Community Stadium in London on Friday for this Premier League curtain-raiser.
This match is the Bees’ first in the Premier League. They haven’t played in England’s top-flight since their post-World War II relegation at the end of the 1946/47 season.
It will also be the first time Arsenal have visited Brentford for a competitive fixture since that campaign in 1947. Their only meeting since then was a 3-1 home victory for Arsenal in the League Cup in 2018.
Brentford FC vs Arsenal: Recommended bets
101 Great Goals’ prediction of Brentford 2 – 2 Arsenal is available at odds of 16/1.
2-1 Brentford win. Brentford’s first-ever league match against Arsenal back in 1935 finished with a scoreline of 2-1 to the Bees. A repeat of this score on Friday is available at odds of 14/1.
1-1 draw. The first-ever competitive match between them back in 1902 in the FA Cup ended in a 1-1 draw. Odds of 13/2 are available if you see this match finishing with the same result.
3-1 Arsenal win. Arsenal’s last match against Brentford was in the League Cup back in 2018. You can back them at 16/1 for the same 3-1 victory on Friday.
Over 2.5 goals. The only Brentford vs Arsenal clash since the 1940s was a 4-goal game in 2018. You can back another high scoring game here on Friday with odds of 10/11 on for over 2.5 goals.
Ivan Toney Goalscorer. Toney (below) was a revelation for Brentford last season. He was signed in a £5m move (plus add-ons) to replace Ollie Watkins, who departed for Aston Villa in a £28m deal. Ivan went on to score 33 league goals to finish the season as the Championship’s Golden Boot winner. The 25-year-old former Peterborough man is 9/2 to score the game’s opener on Friday. Or 11/8 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Arsenal.
Brentford FC vs Arsenal: What are the betting odds?
The Bees are 16/5 to take all 3 points from Arsenal on Friday.
The Gunners, on the other hand, are 5/6 on favourites to pick up an away win at Brentford Community Stadium.
Odds of 11/4 are available if you see Brentford and Arsenal cancelling each other out on Friday.

Brentford FC vs Arsenal: Match preview
While the Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club have become the sports teams synonymous with big data and ‘Moneyball’, Brentford probably best represent its application in terms of English football.
In 2012, lifelong Bees fan and professional gambler, Matthew Benham, saved Brentford from bankruptcy by paying the half-million of debt for the club. Since then, he has revolutionised the club with a strong focus on data and analytics over results. Essentially, the belief that, regardless of results, strong underlying numbers will produce strong profit in the main.
Therefore, rather than treating the result of a match as the barometer of how well the team played, Brentford use various key performance indicators to make assessments on performances and potential changes.
Of course, it is the recruitment side of things for which analytics and Moneyball tend to make the most headlines. This is also true of Brentford, who have made a profit in the transfer market in each of their last 6 seasons and yet managed to achieve promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history. This was particularly noticeable last season, when a profit of over £48m was made, largely through the sales of Ollie Watkins and Saïd Benrahma.
The Bees have spent £25m bolstering their squad in the summer since promotion.
• Kristoffer Ajer, a £14.1m central defender from Celtic.
• Frank Onyeka, a £9.0m central midfielder from Midtjylland.
• Myles Peart-Harris, a £1.4m attacking midfielder from Chelsea.
• Yoane Wissa, a winger signed for an undisclosed fee from Lorient.
Arsenal have also made some moves in the transfer market. Most notable is the signing of Ben White (pictured above) for over £50m to replace David Luiz, who left the club after his contract expired in the summer. Albert Sambi Lokonga joined from Anderlecht in a £16m deal in midfield, to replace Matteo Guendouzi, who joined Marseille on a season-long loan. Nuno Tavares has also been signed from Benfica to provide some depth at left-back.
Brentford FC team news vs Arsenal
The Bees start the season with a relatively clean bill of health, with most of their key players expected to be fit for Friday Night Football.
Mathias Jensen was forced off towards the end of Denmark’s Euro 2021 semi-final defeat against England. However, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that he is now over this leg injury, and should be available for Friday’s Premier League curtain-raiser.
Ivan Toney (above) was also considered a doubt leading up to this match. Frank has stated that he is also expected to be available and ready to play.
That leaves defensive midfielder Joshua Dasilva as the only major injury concern for the Bees before their first Premier League match.
Arsenal team news vs Brentford FC
In contrast, the Gunnars have a few key players who look likely to miss the opening match of the 2021/22 campaign.
Thomas Partey was brought off during Arsenal’s recent pre-season friendly against Chelsea. The prognosis isn’t great, with the player having suffered an injury to ligaments in his right ankle during the match. It will likely be mid-September until he is available.
Edward Nketiah also picked up an injury to his right ankle in the same match, which is expected to rule the young forward out for a similar amount of time.
Arsenal also have injury problems in defence with Gabriel suffering an injury to his right knee whilst with the Brazilian Olympic Squad. The central defender should be back playing before the end of the month.
Rob Holding is also touch-and-go for this one having struggled with fitness over pre-season.
