Aston Villa vs Watford betting tips: Premier League preview, predictions and odds

Philippe Coutinho will likely start against Leeds

Aston Villa have only lost one of their last nine home matches against Watford. The Hornets have kept just one clean sheet in their last 19 Premier League away games.

Both teams to score is 19/20.

Aston Villa to win and over 2.5 goals is 8/5.

Jacob Ramsey is 12/1 to break the deadlock and 4/1 to add to his tally.

Match preview

Can Watford climb out the Premier League's relegation zone?

Roy Hodgson is still searching for his first victory as Hornets boss, starting by drawing 0-0 with Burnley at Turf Moor before back-to-back defeats.

His side went down 1-0 at West Ham before, last weekend, an equally uninspiring 2-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

This means Watford still haven't won a game in any competition since that 4-1 victory over Manchester United on 20 November.

Thus, it'll be no surprise that they are 19th, six points from safety.

Can they close that gap here?

Aston Villa meanwhile are not in the best form either.

The Villans were very underwhelming themselves last weekend in a 1-0 defeat at St James' Park to relegation threatened Newcastle.

So, Steven Gerrard's side have actually only won one of their last six games, the 1-0 win over Everton last month.

This has seen them slip down to 12th, needing to improve if they're to finish in the Premier League's top half for the first time since 2011.

Will the home side have too much quality at Villa Park?

Aston Villa team news

Leon Bailey came off the bench after a long spell on the sidelines last weekend which is a boost.

Even so, Emi Buendía and Philippe Coutinho are likely to continue in the inside-forward positions, hoping to be in the game more than at St James'.

Ezri Konsa missed that game suspended but will return at centre-back, in place of Calum Chambers who made his full debut a week ago.

Danny Ings scored on his Villa debut at Watford on the opening day but is a substitute these days with Ollie Watkins prefered.

Watford team news

Since Roy Hodgson has taken over, it's been his classic, old-school 4-4-2, but this is yet to yield results.

Ismaïla Sarr could come into the XI here for his first Watford start since their last win 91 days ago.

He's subsequently been out with a knee ligament injury before helping Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations.

Up front, Josh King has been preferred to João Pedro in recent matches as the partner of top scorer Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis.

The Nigerian has scored eight times in his debut Premier League campaign which represents 35% of all of the Hornets' goals this season.
