Betting prediction: Aston Villa 1 – 1 Newcastle United
Aston Villa welcomes Newcastle to Villa Park in Birmingham on Saturday for this Premier League match.
This is a fixture that has typically favoured the home side in the Premier League era. There hasn’t been an away win in this head-to-head in any of the last 11 meetings, and 8 of Villa’s 10 Premier League wins have come at Villa Park.
Villa have won the last two meetings between these sides, and are looking to make it 3-in-a-row. While Newcastle are looking to end a run of just 1 win in 8 against Aston Villa, home or away.
Aston Villa vs Newcastle United: Recommended bets
With 4 of the last 8 matches between them having finished 1-1, 101 Great Goals are predicting another Aston Villa 1 – 1 Newcastle result, available at odds of 7/1.
2-0 Aston Villa win. Aston Villa won their last home match against Newcastle back in January by a scoreline of 2-0. A repeat of this score on Saturday is available at odds of 9/1.
0-0 draw. Two of the last four Premier League matches in this head-to-head at Villa Park have finished 0-0. Odds of 11/1 are available if you see this match finishing with the same result.
1-2 Newcastle win. Away wins in this head-to-head are a rarity. The last away win for either side was 12 matches ago, here at Villa Park back in 2013. You can back the Magpies at 14/1 for the same 1-2 scoreline on Saturday.
Under 2.5 goals. Aston Villa vs Newcastle matches are rarely ones for the neutral observer. All of the last 11 matches between them have been under 2.5 goal games. You can back another low scoring affair on Saturday with odds of 11/10 for under 2.5 goals.
Danny Ings Goalscorer. Ings (pictured below) got his debut goal for Villa at the weekend, with a 96th-minute penalty against Watford. The England international is 9/2 to score the game’s opener on Saturday. Or 13/10 to bag a goal on his home debut at any time versus Newcastle United.
Aston Villa vs Newcastle United: What are the betting odds?
Home advantage is massive in this fixture, with Villa having won both of their previous home matches in this head-to-head. The Villans are the favourites at 3/4 on to take all 3 points from Newcastle on Saturday.
Whereas, the Magpies are 7/2 to pick up an away win at Villa Park.
Draws are the common outcome in this head-to-head, with 5 of the last 8 matches ending in stalemate. Odds of 11/4 are available if you see Aston Villa and Newcastle cancelling each other out once again on Saturday.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle United: Match preview
If a trophy was awarded for business done in the transfer market over the summer, most neutrals would have had Villa near the top of their lists before a ball was kicked this season.
Obviously losing Jack Grealish to Manchester City was a huge loss, although the £100m they will reportedly receive from the deal certainly cushions the blow. However, replacing him with 3 top -quality attacking players is what caught the eye.
Emiliano Buendía, Danny Ings and Leon Bailey have all been linked with moves to the Premier League’s so-called ‘big six’ in recent windows. So, Aston Villa acquiring the trio for less than the amount received for Grealish looks like excellent business on paper.
On top of this, Ashley Young returning to the club on a free transfer from Serie A champions Inter Milan and Axel Tuanzebe joining on loan from Manchester United gives them some quality in-depth that perhaps they didn’t have at times last season. However, it could take some time for the new boys to gel and, in the case of Bailey, to adapt to the Premier League.
While a 3-2 opening-day away defeat doesn’t sound that bad, it was the manner of the loss that will be of concern. Watford grabbed an early opener and from that moment on, Villa were never really in the game. In fact, it was only really at 3-0 down that they actually got going.
Leon Bailey, just minutes after coming off the bench for his debut, set up John McGinn to open Villa’s account for the season. They didn’t get their second until deep into injury time, and from the penalty spot, with Ings converting for his debut goal.
The Magpies’ biggest concern is in the goalkeeping department. To his credit, at the weekend, Freddie Woodman gave a good demonstration of his shot-stopping ability, making 5 saves including 2 from big chances. His penalty save from Michail Antonio would have been the highlight had Tomas Soucek not scored just afterwards.
First-choice keeper Martin Dubravka only managed 13 appearances last campaign due to injury, and has started this season in the same way – on the treatment table. With Karl Darlow also struggling with injury, it leaves Newcastle light on Premier League experience between the sticks.
They also have Joe Willock (pictured above) back from Arsenal, and this time on a permanent basis. The 21-year-old central midfielder signed for £25m after his loan spell here last season, during which he bagged 8 goals in 14 appearances.
While Villa have more quality and depth in their squad, Newcastle’s players being settled in their system could give them the edge. Overall, we expect the two to cancel each other out on Saturday.
Aston Villa team news vs Newcastle United
Trezeguet has been out since suffering a knee injury at Anfield towards the end of last season. He’s had a successful operation and is currently in rehab but isn’t expected to feature again until 2022.
Morgan Sanson has also been out since last season with a knee injury. He is further along than Trezeguet in his recovery, and is back on the training ground. However, having missed all of pre-season, he will need to build up his fitness and will likely be involved in some reserve matches before playing for the first team again.
Ollie Watkins (pictured above) has been struggling with a knee injury and missed the defeat at Watford last weekend. With Danny Ings, Leon Bailey, Bertrand Traore and Wesley all available, there is no need to rush him back to action before he is 100%.
Douglas Luiz only returned last Monday following his involvement with Brazil at the Olympics. It remains to be seen if he needs a rest period after his exertions in Tokyo.
Newcastle United team news vs Aston Villa
The Magpies’ biggest concern is in the goalkeeping department.
First-choice keeper Martin Dubravka (pictured above) remains ruled out with an ankle injury. He hasn’t been involved in pre-season, and looks likely to miss a significant portion of the start of this season.
Karl Darlow is nearer a return to action than Dubravka. He wasn’t ready for a spot on the bench on the opening day of the season. Hopefully, after another week of rehab on his injury, he can at least take a place on the bench. Freddie Woodman will continue between the sticks until Darlow is ready to return to action.
Elliott Anderson is still struggling with the hip injury that plagued him over the summer months. Despite resting up during pre-season, the problem hasn’t cleared up. He won’t be involved in the trip to Birmingham here.
Paul Dummett injured his calf in a pre-season friendly against Doncaster. Matt Ritchie started at left-back on opening day in his place, while Jamal Lewis is also available should Steve Bruce be looking for a different option.
Jonjo Shelvey had a disappointing day in midfield against West Ham, and was withdrawn 20 minutes before the full-time whistle. Joe Willock would be the main candidate to replace him, after completing his permanent move from Arsenal.
