Betting prediction: Aston Villa 1-4 Liverpool

Both sides have a 100% record in the league this season, although Aston Villa have played one fewer game than the Reds.

Having won their opening two matches, the match against the champions will be something of a freebie for Villa.

Liverpool have won each of their last five league matches against Aston Villa.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool: Recommended bets

Both teams to score. Liverpool have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight league matches, while Villa have netted in four out of five matches this season.

Over 3.5 goals. Four of Liverpool’s last five matches in the Premier League have produced four or more goals.

Sadio Mane to score. Mane was rested entirely in midweek and will be raring to add to his three league goals this season.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool: Match preview

Liverpool travel to Birmingham on Sunday for their match against Aston Villa. One of the two sides will be dropping points for the first time this season.

Liverpool showed why they’re the defending champions in last week’s comfortable 3-1 home win over Arsenal. After going behind due to an unforced error, the Reds responded with goals from Sadio Mane, Andrew Robertson and Diogo Jota.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were also in midweek Carabao Cup action, again at home to Arsenal. On this occasion, a heavily-rotated Liverpool side were held to a 0-0 drew after 90 minutes and lost the resulting penalty shootout. Divock Origi and Harry Wilson missed their spot kicks.

Aston Villa’s four-match winning run came to an end on Thursday night, as they too were beaten in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Villa were beaten 1-0 at home to Championship side Stoke.

Last weekend Villa beat Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage, with goals from Jack Grealish, Conor Hourihane and Tyrone Mings.

Liverpool did the double over Villa last season. Last season’s corresponding fixture finished 2-1 to the Reds, although they were behind for much of the game.

Trezeguet gave Villa a half-time lead before Andrew Robertson equalised with three minutes of normal time to play. Typical of their never-say-day attitude last season, Sadio Mane scored the winner for Liverpool in the 94th minute.

These two sides have met 50 times in the Premier League over the years. Liverpool have won 28 of those matches, drawing 10 and losing 12.

Aston Villa team news vs Liverpool

Jack Grealish was given the night off on Thursday, while the likes of Douglas Luiz and Conor Hourihane were unused substitutes.

It might be too soon for a start for new loan signing Ross Barkley, but he could take his place on the bench.

Emi Martinez – who faced Liverpool in Arsenal’s Community Shield win in August – will start in goal. Tom Heaton remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Bjorn Engels is out with a quadricep strain, while Wesley is a long-term absentee.

Liverpool team news vs Aston Villa

Jurgen Klopp also made a number of changes on Thursday night, although both Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah started the game. The pair were hauled off around the hour mark.

Alisson, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Trent Alexander-Arnold were rested entirely, while Fabinho and Andrew Robertson were unused substitutes.

Thiago Alcantara is unavailable. The Spaniard is in an isolation period after testing positive for COVID-19.

Jordan Henderson is a dought after picking up a hamstring injury, while back-up left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas is ruled out for Sunday.

Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are still sidelined.
