It will be the second time mentor faces protégé with Steven Gerrard, who was given his first coaching position by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, facing the enigmatic German for the first time at Villa Park. His only previous match in his career against Liverpool, as either player or coach, was a 1-0 defeat at Anfield back in December with only a Mo Salah penalty separating the sides.

The Reds have been good on their travels recently and have picked up 16 points from their last six Premier League matches on the road. A 2-2 at the City of Manchester Stadium is the only blemish on an otherwise perfect away record on the form table. We see them bouncing back after a tough point against Spurs with a win here. Therefore, 101 Great Goals’ prediction for this match is Aston Villa 0 – 2 Liverpool and is available at odds of 7.5/1.

Competition Odds

Having already won the League Cup in February against Chelsea, they face them once again in the FA Cup final this Saturday and are 2.05/1 favourites to make it a domestic cup double.

They are also still in with a chance of winning the Premier League this season. Although, after dropping points against Spurs and watching City smash five past Newcastle, they will need at least one favour from Manchester City’s three remaining games as well as a glut of goals to make up the goal difference in the event it comes down to it as a tie-breaker. Odds of 10/1 can be had for the Reds to win a domestic treble of Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup.

The Reds are also in their third UEFA Champions League Final in five years under Jurgen Klopp where their face the side who famously defeated them in Kyiv in what was dubbed the ‘Karius final’. They are the favourites at evens to win the UEFA Champions League. Or 2.25/1 to win a cup treble of Champions League, League Cup and FA Cup.

Aston Villa welcomes Liverpool to Villa Park in Birmingham on Tuesday for this Premier League match. The Reds have the huge upper hand in the head to head, with 30 wins to Aston Villa’s 13, from their 53 encounters in the Premier League. A large part of the reason for this is Jurgen Klopp’s dominance in this head to head with five wins in six league games against Villa since arriving in Liverpool.

The results against Villa seem to fit into two extreme ends of a scale with them either demolishing Liverpool to win by a five-goal margin or losing to Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. Of course, one of those results was a 5-0 win in the League Cup Quarter Finals when the Liverpool squad was on the other side of the globe playing in the Club World Cup and were forced to field their youth team. However, the 7-2 pasting in the Premier League came when Liverpool had their best eleven on the pitch just four games into their title defence season.

Jack Grealish had a hand in five of the seven goals that night creating the opening two goals for Ollie Watkins, and the fifth for Ross Barkley before adding a late brace of goals for himself as the icing on the cake. The playmaker has since departed for Manchester City with Emiliano Buendía signed to replace him in the summer. However, the diminutive former Norwich man failed to settle into the side right away which paved the way for academy player Jacob Ramsey to nail down a place in the side.

Jacob Ramsey has been with the club since he was just six years old and is now in his second season as a regular in the matchday squad. Last season he was largely used from the bench and saw around 600 minutes of time on the pitch in his 22 appearances. Ramsey has already almost quadrupled that amount this season and has also added goals to his game, banging in six already from midfield. This had caught the eye of the watching scouts from the Premier League’s ‘big six’ with Tuesday’s opponents Liverpool reportedly at the front of the queue for his signature. This resulted in the club tying the 20-year-old Birmingham-born kid down to a new five-year deal just weeks ago.

Philippe Coutinho was also added to the mix in January with the former Liverpool man recapturing the form that saw Barca part with almost £150m in total for the Brazilian. His 22-minute cameo on his debut against United started the comeback from 0-2 down to draw 2-2 with the little Phil scoring the equalising goal.

A man of the match performance on his full debut at Villa Park followed with Coutinho (pictured below) having a hand in all three goals in a 3-3 draw with Leeds United. However, performances have tailed off as of late, with Coutinho benched for the first time since making his full debut for the midweek trip to Burnley after a string of sub-par performances. He is the man for the big occasion though and Liverpool will be wary of the man who had eighteen goals and assists in nineteen games for Liverpool in his final half-season at the club.

Coutinho Last Goalscorer – “The Little Magician” is 12/1 to score the game’s final goal on Tuesday. Or 4.3/1 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Liverpool.

Aston Villa team news

Kortney Hause has been out of the last eight matchday squads due to an abdominal issue. No update has been provided since mid-March and it looks increasingly like he will miss the remaining few games left of the season.

Leon Bailey lasted only forty minutes of the match against Norwich at the end of April. This is now his fourth separate spell out in an injury-riddled first season at the club. While it isn’t believed to be serious, it kept him out of the trip to Burnley and he is a major doubt here. Jacob Ramsey is also in doubt after suffering a pelvic injury in training that kept him out of the 1-3 win at Burnley.

Liverpool team news

The Reds have no new injuries to report coming out of their 1-1 draw against Spurs at the weekend. Roberto Firmino (pictured above) was the only player missing from the squad due to fitness concerns. He is back in training though and the club are monitoring his fitness game-to-game. He is expected to be involved either against Villa or this weekend.

With the FA Cup final approaching on Saturday, we should expect to see some shuffling of the pack here with one eye on that fixture. Sadio Mané, Virgil van Dijk (pictured above) and Andrew Robertson are the only three outfield players to have started each of the last three games and are the most likely players to be rested here. Thiago has started back to back games and is unlikely to start three in a row as the club carefully manages his game load. Fabinho may also be due a one-game rest in the number six position having also started Liverpool’s last two games.
