Aston Villa vs Leicester City: Match preview
Aston Villa still have their eyes fixed on European qualification this season despite being held to a draw with Brighton.
The Seagulls managed to secure a point in a goalless draw at the Amex Stadium last Saturday.
Smith’s side had been looking to build on an impressive win over Arsenal but produced an uninspired performance on the South Coast.
However, the Midlands club remain in a strong position as they sit just six points off the top four with two games in hand.
Their games in hand see them travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United before they host Tottenham Hotspur.
Leicester consolidate top-four position
Leicester City now find themselves four points clear of fifth-place following their win over Liverpool last Saturday.
The Foxes managed to complete a late turnaround against the Reds as they ended up comfortably winning 3-1.
Brendan Rodgers will be hopeful the win is the start of a good run for his side who had won just once in their previous four matches.
They were also in action during midweek as they were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw with Slavia Prague.
Leicester will now once again need to show they can deal with playing Thursdays and Sundays as they return to Europa League action.
Aston Villa team news vs Leicester City
Villa have been a big injury blow with Matty Cash being ruled out of action for three to four weeks.
The right-back suffered a hamstring injury against Brighton and will miss the arrival of Leicester on Sunday.
Cash has missed just one league game for Villa all season, playing a key part in their impressive campaign so far.
The experienced Ahmed Elmohamady replaced him against the Seagulls and is set to do the same again on Sunday.
Kortney Hause and Wesley also remain sidelined for the game as they return from injury.
Leicester City team news vs Aston Villa
Leicester will be handed a double injury boost on the weekend with both Timothy Castagne and Ricardo Pereira set to return.
The duo’s return comes just at the right time with James Justin being ruled out for several months with ligament damage.
Daniel Amartey was forced to fill in at right-back against Liverpool, so Castagne being back will be a huge plus for the Foxes.
Pereira was rested against Slavia Prague having only just recovered from ligament damage.
Wesley Fofana, Dennis Praet, Ayoze Perez and Wes Morgan all remain sidelined for the trip to Villa Park.
