For all their early season form, Aston Villa find themselves 10th in the table. Villa impressively beat Wolves 1-0 at Molineux on Saturday. Anwar El Ghazi came off the bench to score in a 94th-minute winner. Both sides ended the game with 10 men. A win on Thursday could lift Villa as high as 6th, depending on results elsewhere.
Burnley picked up a massive win away at Arsenal on Sunday, lifting them out of the bottom three. It was Burnley’s first-ever Premier League win over the Gunners.
Arsenal were down to 10 men early in the second half when Granit Xhaka was sent off for stupidly grabbing the neck of Ashley Westwood. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored an unfortunate headed own goal while defending a Burnley corner.
Burnley have picked up points in four of their last five matches. Their only defeat in that run was away to Manchester City – although they were thoroughly beaten 5-0 in that game.
Despite Sunday’s win, Burnley’s away form ranks 17th in the league with five points from six away matches. Only two teams have conceded more goals away from home than Burnley (12) and only Sheffield United have scored fewer than Burnley’s 3 on the road.
Aston Villa and Burnley faced each other six times in the Premier League previously. Villa have beaten Burnley twice and lost once, with the other three matches ended in draws.
Villa beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor on New Year’s Day. Wesley and Jack Grealish gave Villa a 2-0 half-time lead before Chris Wood scored a late consolation.

Douglas Luiz will serve a suspension following his late sending off against Wolves.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson is struggling with a hamstring injury and faces a late fitness test.
Jack Cork is yet to make a senior appearance for Burnley this season but played 45 minutes for the under-23s on Monday as he looks to build up his match fitness. Dale Stephens and former Villa loanee Phil Bardsley were also involved.
Ashley Barnes and Matej Vydra may have to settle for a spot on the bench once more.
