With one point from their last five matches in the league, the pressure is mounting on Gunners boss Mikel Arteta. Defeat on Wednesday could be curtains.

Arsenal vs Southampton: Recommended bets
Southampton to keep a clean sheet. Arsenal have scored two goals in their last eight league matches.
Under 2.5 goals. Three of Arsenal’s last four league matches have produced fewer than three goals. League games at the Emirates this season have averaged 2.3 goals per game.
Danny Ings to score. Ings has scored six goals in his last eight Premier League appearances. His last four goals have all come away from home. Ings also has a decent record against Arsenal with three goals in five previous appearances.
SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND – DECEMBER 13: Che Adams of Southampton celebrates with teammates Jannik Vestergaard, Danny Ings and Theo Walcott after scoring their team’s first goal during the Premier League match between Southampton and Sheffield United at St Mary’s Stadium on December 13, 2020 in Southampton, England. A limited number of spectators (2000) are welcomed back to stadiums to watch elite football across England. This was following easing of restrictions on spectators in tiers one and two areas only. Arsenal vs Southampton: Premier League match preview
Arsenal welcome Southampton to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. The UK Government’s announcement that London would move to tier 3 means that no supporters will be allowed in attendance.
The 2,000 fans that managed to get a ticket to Sunday’s game at the Emirates probably regretted going as they witnessed their side lose 1-0 to Burnley. Granit Xhaka was sent off early in the second half before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored an unfortunate own goal.
Arsenal remain 15th in the table on 13 points, five points above the relegation zone. Having won three of their opening four matches, Mikel Arteta’s side have gone on to win just one of their previous eight.
Sunday’s loss was Arsenal’s fourth consecutive league defeat at home – this first time that’s happened to Arsenal since 1959. 13 points from 12 games mean that it’s the Gunners’ worst start to a campaign since 1987.
Southampton are in great form
Southampton cruised to a 3-0 home win over Sheffield United on Sunday, with goals from Che Adams, Stuart Armstrong, and Nathan Redmond.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s have only lost one of their last 10 games and are deservedly 4th in the table. With three wins and two draws from their six matches on the road, Southampton’s away form ranks 6th in the league.
Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock scored in a 2-0 win at St. Mary’s in the sides’ most recent meeting in June. Last season’s corresponding fixture at the Emirates ended in a 2-2 draw. Southampton twice took the lead but Arsenal earned a point thanks to an Alexandre Lacazette brace.
Arsenal have faced Southampton 42 times in the Premier League. Arsenal have won 23 of those matches, drawn 12 and lost the other seven. Southampton have never won away at Arsenal in the Premier League era. Their last league win at Arsenal was in 1987.
Arsenal team news vs Southampton
With patience running out, there’s a growing feeling among Arsenal fans that it’s time to give the Europa League players a run in the league. Whether or not Arteta does that remains to be seen.
Recent performances mean that Alexandre Lacazette, Willian, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are all at risk of being dropped.
Arteta will make two enforced changes at the very least. Granit Xhaka will begin his three-match suspension after being sent off for grabbing Ashley Westwood’s neck on Sunday night. Xhaka is likely to be replaced by Dani Ceballos in midfield, although Joe Willock is another option.
Hector Bellerin will also miss out through suspension due to an accumulation of yellow cards in the league. Former Saints defender Cedric Soares and Ainsley Maitland-Niles will compete for the right-back vacancy, although the latter has been used in central midfield to good effect in recent Europa League matches.
Rob Holding could lose his place in defence, with Pablo Mari, Shkodran Mustafi, and former Southampton defender Callum Chambers all in contention to partner Gabriel Magalhaes.
Nicolas Pepe is available again after serving a three-match domestic ban and will almost certainly replace Willian on Arsenal’s right flank.
David Luiz has missed the last few matches with a head injury and remains a slight doubt. There are also unconfirmed reports that the Brazilian has on bad terms with Arteta at the moment.
Reiss Nelson and Sead Kolasinac are further doubts, while Thomas Partey remains unavailable due to a hamstring injury.
Gabriel Martinelli has featured for the under-21s recently and could be given a spot on the bench.
Southampton team news vs Arsenal
Southampton have no injury concerns heading into the game.
Following Sunday’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United, Hasenhuttl has no reason to make any changes to his starting eleven.
That means Theo Walcott should start against his former club.
Former Arsenal academy player Nathan Tella has made three Premier League appearances this season and could be on the bench.
