Match preview

This is the most-played fixture in English top-flight history, 202 times including this, and the two will meet again with Everton having secured safety.

The Toffees began the week with back-to-back home games, knowing that a win in either would confirm safety.

Against Brentford last Sunday, everything was going to plan with Dominic Calvert-Lewin opening the scoring just ten minutes in.

However, it all went wrong when Jarrad Branthwaite was sent off, with the Bees fighting back to win 3-2 before Salomón Rondón was also dismissed late on.

Then, on Thursday night, the Blues welcomed Crystal Palace to Goodison but, by half time, they were 2-0 down and in huge trouble.

Michael Keane halved the deficit shortly after the break, with Richarlison, somehow, squirming in an equaliser 15 minutes from time.

Then, right before the end, Demarai Gray's inch-perfect free-kick was headed home by Calvert-Lewin; cue bedlam at Goodison.

This is the first time ever Everton have been trailing by two goals at half time and come back to win a Premier League game.

More importantly, it means Frank Lampard's side sit four points clear of the bottom three, so are safe with one game to go.

This makes this game pretty academic as the Toffees look to add to their measly tally of ten points from 18 games on the road this season.

Arsenal meantime were hoping this would be a day of celebration but, barring a Norfolk-base miracle, this will not be the case.

Ten days ago, the Gunners travelled to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, knowing that a win would rubber stamp a top four finish.

However, they completely fell apart, seeing Rob Holding sent off and finding themselves 3-0 down mere moments into the second half.

Nevertheless, it was still in Arsenal's hands as they travelled to St James' Park on Monday night to face Newcastle.

But, at exactly the wrong time, Mikel Arteta's side put in their most lifeless display of the campaign, getting beaten 2-0 on Tyneside.

So, having lost six of their last 11, the Gunners are fifth, two points behind Tottenham who travel to bottom of the table Norwich simultaneously.

The only way they can snatch a Champions League place is if they win and Spurs, somehow, lose at Carrow Road; that can't happen can it?

Whilst this seems very improbable, it's worth Arsenal fans acknowledging the progress they've made this season, following back-to-back eighth placed finishes.

Who will end a campaign of ups and downs with victory at the Emirates?

Arsenal team news

Arsenal are still without Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey, while Takehiro Tomiyasu went off injured in the first half of Monday's match.

If the Japanese defender isn't back, Cédric will deputise at right-back.

In the middle, Rob Holding is available again after his one-game but Benjamin White and Gabriel will continue as the partnership, if fit.

Mohamed Elneny will remain Granit Xhaka's midfield partner in the absence of Partey.

Further forward, Bukayo Saka has featured in all 37 Premier League games so far, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.

Assuming he features here too, he'll become the second-youngest player to achieve this for the club, after Cesc Fàbregas 15 years ago.

Martin Ødegaard will captain the side, but it remains to be seen if Emile Smith Rowe or Gabriel Martinelli will complete the attacking trio.

Strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract, so neither are at all likely to be seen in an Arsenal shirt again.

Everton team news

For Frank Lampard's team, it's job done and, after an energy-sapping night on Thursday, he may rotate here.

Jarrad Branthwaite is available again but Salomón Rondón's three-match ban means it's unlikely he'll pull on a blue shirt again.

Meanwhile, Yerry Mina, Nathan Patterson, Tom Davies, and Andros Townsend are all long-term absentees.

Up top, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is looking to score in three successive games for the first time since the first three matches of the campaign.

Donny van de Beek was on the bench on Thursday and, following a thigh injury, will be looking for his first minutes since 13 March.

Fellow January signing Dele came off the bench and changed the game against Crystal Palace.

The former Tottenham midfielder will be hoping to add to his two career goals against his former North London rivals.
