“It’s the Pog-show”
Manchester United caught a few people by surprise with Thursday’s announcement that they’d re-signed 35-year-old striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The announcement set social media ablaze and left rival supporters fearful of what is to come for the Red Devils this season.
In a recent post on Paul Pogba’s Instagram, Zlatan can be heard stealing the limelight at one of the Frenchman’s photoshoots for UEFA’s equality campaign #equalgame.
In the caption, Pogba refers to himself as ‘Agent P’, referring to the role he played in United’s signing of Romelu Lukaku earlier in the summer.
“I never left, I just upgraded my number”
In addition to taking a big pay cut of around £200,000 per week, the Swede also relinquished his number 9 jersey to Lukaku, and taking the number 10 jersey vacated by Wayne Rooney.
Speaking exclusively to ESPN, Ibrahimovic details how he ‘upgraded’ his number:
“Lukaku called me and he said ‘Bro, can I get the number 9?; and I said ‘Listen, I’m not on that level where I will make it difficult for you, I just want you to feel happy and welcome, so I give the number 9… but I’ll take the number 10’. I never left, I just upgraded my number”
Having previously been ruled out until the end of the year, Ibrahimovic is now targeting a return as early as October.
The prospect of a Lukaku-Ibrahimovic attack is sure to give Premier League defenders nightmares.
Manager Jose Mourinho will hope to have Ibrahimovic available for the latter part of United’s Champions League group stage.
United were fortunate in Thursday’s draw, being put in Group A alongside Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow.
Despite winning over 30 major honours in his career, Ibrahimovic has never managed to win the Champions League – something he’ll be hopign to change this season with Man United.
