United need to gel

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has acknowledged that Manchester United haven’t clicked yet in a new interview with ESPN Brasil. The forward was speaking after his side’s goalless draw at Anfield on Monday night. He missed one of the best chances of that game, a point-blank header from a Paul Pogba cross. It was the latest in a worrying streak of misses from the Swede. He’s in poor form.

Not that United are exactly flying as a whole at the minute. They’re being criticised for their stuttering start to the season. These things take time, Zlatan said: “I think we’re working very hard and just need to find a click among each other. Once we find that click, it makes it easy for ourselves. We’ll find each other much easier and the balance of defending and attacking will be much easier.

“So many things are new and we are working hard. At the same time, we haven’t had a lot of luck.

“Against Stoke [a 1-1 draw], we could have won the game very easily but we got one point and so on and so on. We need to work hard and stay focused and with a little bit of luck it will come.”

Good Anfield result

Ibrahimovic also defended the way United performed at Anfield, saying that it’s not an easy place to go: “After the second half, I think it was a good result. We came and did what we needed to do, especially in the first half. Second half, we loosened up a little bit and then they got more chances. They played more like they’re used to playing.

“It’s not easy to play here at Anfield. Liverpool, at the moment, are playing very good and doing great things in the competition.”
