Zinedine Zidane to take over at Real Madrid from Tuesday

Madrid are 12 points behind Barcelona

Zinedine Zidane stepped down as Real Madrid manager at the end of last season after securing his third straight Champions League victory with Los Blancos.

Julen Lopetegui would then be appointed Madrid boss in controversial circumstances that saw him let go as Spain’s manager just before the World Cup.

Lopetegui would have a very short stint at Madrid playing 14, winning six, drawing two and losing six.

He would then be fired in October with Santiago Solari taking over.

Solari has done a slightly better job than his predecessor playing 32, winning 22, drawing two and losing eight.

However, Madrid have recently suffered humiliation in the Champions League after being knocked out in the round of 16 vs Dutch outfit Ajax.

Madrid also lost back-to-back games vs bitter rivals, FC Barcelona. Moreover, Real are a staggering 12 points behind Barcelona who top La Liga.

Zidane set for Real Madrid return

All of this has led to speculation that Solari’s days in Madrid are numbered.

Spanish outfit Marca have been providing updates on Monday morning about Solari’s future with Madrid president Florentino Perez set to meet with the board at some point on Monday.

Jose Mourinho has been heavily linked with a return to the Bernabeu in recent days.

However, it is now emerging that Zinedine Zidane is set for a return to Madrid.

The news is being reported by various outfits around the world with trusted Spanish journalist Guillem Balague ‏also confirming that Zidane will take charge of Real Madrid training from Tuesday.
