Zinedine Zidane says his Gareth Bale comments were misinterpreted/Welshman may play vs Arsenal

Real Madrid: Zinedine Zidane & Gareth Bale

Will Gareth Bale still be at Real Madrid in 2019-20?

That looked impossible after Los Blancos lost 3-1 to Bayern Munich a few days ago.

Bale played no part in that fixture, and after the game, Zinedine Zidane confirmed that the club were trying to sell the attacker.

In his post-match presser after losing 3-1 to Bayern, Zidane said:

We hope he leaves soon. It would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team.

I have nothing personal against him, but there comes a time where things are done because they must be done.

Gareth Bale’s agent: Zidane is a “disgrace”

After Zidane’s comments, Jonathan Barnett, Bale’s agent, hit back forcibly:

Zidane is a disgrace – he shows no respect for a player that has done so much for Real Madrid.

Zidane: “My Spanish is a bit confusing”

Real Madrid are back in action on Tuesday night in America.

Next up is the International Champions Cup match against Arsenal.

Prior to the Gunners game, Zidane has been pressed to further explain Bale’s position at the club.

As translated by Real Madrid’s website, Zidane has now claimed that his words may have been misinterpreted.

At the same time, Zidane claimed that Bale refused to play against Bayern.

Asked “were your comments on Bale misinterpreted”, Zidane said:

That’s the problem. At times my Spanish is a bit confusing. I’m going to try and be very clear.

Firstly, I haven’t shown a lack of respect towards anyone and particularly not towards a player. I’ve always said the same thing: the players are the most important ones in all of this. Whenever there’s a player involved, I’ll always back them.

Secondly, what I said the other day is that the club was working on his exit.

Thirdly, Gareth didn’t come on because he didn’t want to. He said that the club was working on his exit and that’s why he didn’t come on.

Will Gareth Bale play vs Arsenal?

In short, that’s highly likely. Zidane said:

Gareth is a Real Madrid player, he’ll train as normal today and we’ll have to see what happens tomorrow.

You know all about the situation. The club is doing what it has to and that’s all there is to it. Bale is currently part of the squad and I respect that. That’s the most important thing for me.

I’ll be counting on him in everything we do.
