Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has provided the latest on the fitness of attackers Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio, ahead of the club’s meeting with Eibar.
Real’s Barca pursuit resumes
La Liga became the latest of Europe’s top leagues to get back underway this week.
After the Bundesliga paved the way with a successful and above all safe return in May, the Spanish top-flight followed suit on Thursday night, as Sevilla downed Real Betis in a derby clash.
The race for the La Liga title, meanwhile, is set to resume tonight.
First, champions Barcelona will take on Mallorca at the Iberostar Stadium, before Real Madrid, currently 2 points adrift of the table-topping Blaugrana, welcome Eibar to the capital in 24 hours’ time.
‘Both are avaliable’
And, as outlined above, as his side prepare for what is no doubt set to be a tightly-contested bout for Spanish supremacy, Zinedine Zidane has today provided updates on a pair of key members of Real’s squad.
The players in question? Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio.
Belgian attacker Hazard, amid a difficult debut campaign at the Bernabeu, has been sidelined since February, after breaking a bone in his foot.
Marco Asensio, meanwhile, is yet to step foot on the pitch this season, after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during a pre-season friendly meeting with Arsenal last summer.
In a major boost for Los Blancos ahead of the season’s run-in, though, both attackers have returned to fitness.
Speaking in a press conference today ahead of his side’s return to action, Zinedine Zidane explained:
‘The good thing is they had the same time to prepare as the rest of the team.’
‘Asensio’s injury was a bit more serious and required longer rehabilitation, but both are available, they’ll be there for the team to help us and it’s good news to have them back.’
