Zinedine Zidane: Hazard ‘needed a club like Real Madrid to improve’

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has this afternoon aimed a subtle dig at Chelsea, after suggesting that Eden Hazard needed to make the move to the Bernabeu in order to reach his full potential.

Hazard joins Real

Following weeks of mounting speculation, Zidane’s Real finally clinched the signing of Blues’ star man Hazard last month.

The Belgian made the move to the Bernabeu for an initial fee of £89 million, despite having had just a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Taking to Facebook on the back of his ‘dream’ transfer being made official, Hazard posted the following message to Chelsea’s fans:

‘Leaving Chelsea is the biggest and toughest decision in my career to date.’

‘I hope you understand I had to pursue my next chapter, just as each and every one of you should when you have the chance to pursue your dreams.’

‘Now it’s in the open I would like to put on record one thing was always clear to me, I have loved every moment at Chelsea and not once did I ever consider, nor would I have left for any other club.’

‘This club has something special and we all know it’

Hazard has since joined up with his new teammates for pre-season training, with the 28-year-old widely-expected to dazzle the Bernabeu faithful over the coming seasons, in the same way he did their equivalents at Stamford Bridge.

And one individual who feels as though Hazard’s move, which was several years in the making, came as a necessary one for the attacker to ensure a step up career-wise, is Blancos’ boss Zinedine Zidane.

When questioned on Hazard’s potential impact on his side earlier today, Zidane explained:

‘He’s a decisive player. He scores goals and makes a difference.’

‘He’s shown that throughout his career and now we have him. We will take advantage of his qualities.’

‘I’m very happy with him. Eden needed a club like Real Madrid to improve. This club has something special and we all know it.’

‘When I arrived at Real Madrid, I was 29 and I still had a lot left. I spent five years here as a player and improved things. Eden’s situation is the same.’

‘We know the type of player he is and that he can give us a lot.’
