Zidane’s open letter
Zinedine has written an open letter to Real Madrid fans detailing the reasoning behind his departure and shedding light on some of the problems which went on at the club during his second spell in the Spanish capital.
Zidane explained his decision to leave the club was based on a lack of faith from his executives.
“Iâm leaving because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me I need, nor the support to build something in the medium or long term,” he said.
“I understand football and I know the demands of a club like Real Madrid. I know when you donât win, you have to leave. But with this a very important thing has been forgotten, everything I built day-to-day has been forgotten, what I brought to my relationships with the players, with the 150 people who work with and around the team.”
Zidane also claimed that leaked messages to the press caused doubt in the mind of his players.
“Thatâs why it hurt me so much when I read in the press, after a defeat, that I would be sacked if I didnât win the next game. It hurt me and the whole team because these deliberately leaked messages to the media negatively influenced the squad, they created doubts and misunderstandings.”#

Real Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League by eventual winners Chelsea. They lost the league title race to Atletico Madrid and were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by lower league opposition Alcoyano.
Zidane clearly feels much of this was down to external factors in addition to his own mistakes and those of his team.
What did Real Madrid say?
The club released a statement regarding his decision, filled with gratitude for his time at Los Blancos. It is unknown whether president Florentino Perez had anything to do with the scripting of the statement.
“Real Madrid C. F. announces that Zinedine Zidane has decided to bring an end to his current spell as head coach of our club,” it read.
“We must now respect his decision and express our gratitude for his professionalism, dedication and passion over the years and what he means to Real Madrid.
“Zidane is one of Real Madrid’s great icons and his legacy extends beyond what he has achieved as a coach and player at our club.
“He is aware that he has a place in the hearts of the Real Madrid fans and that he will always have a home at Real Madrid.”
Who will take over from Zidane?
One of the tipped names, Massimiliano Allegri, has already taken up a position at former side Juventus, limiting the options.
Mauricio Pochettino, Raul and Antonio Conte have all been linked with the job, which is perhaps the hardest in world football.
PSG however, have stated they are happy with the Argentine.
