Yerry Mina closing in on €32m Everton switch

Spanish outlet Sport is today reporting that Everton are closing in on a deal for Barcelona and Colombia’s Yerry Mina.

Manchester United were the frontrunners for Mina but after the deal fell through due to agent disputes, Everton are now very close to finalising a deal for him.

Time at Barca

Mina began his career in Colombia with Deportivo Pasto before moving to fellow Colombian side Independiente Santa Fe in 2014 for an unknown fee.

Mina played a total of 84 games for Independiente Santa Fe, in which he scored eight and assisted one.

The Colombian would then move to Brazilian side Palmeiras in May of 2016 for a fee in the region of £2.88 million.

Mina played 33 games for Palmeiras in which time he scored eight and assisted two.

This impressive season caught the eye of Spanish giants FC Barcelona who would sign Mina in January of 2018 for a fee of around £10.62 million.

Mina has played just six games for Barcelona, earning one assist in that time. However, despite only signing for Barca in January, Mina looks set for a move away from Spain this summer with Wolves and Leicester both showing an interest in him but it was United who looked closest to signing him before the deal fell through and it now seems to be Everton.

World Cup

The main reason so many clubs are targeting Mina though is due to his great World Cup.

Mina played three of Colombia’s four World Cup games and scored in each of them. He was also very solid at the back for Colombia.

However, Colombia would be knocked out in the round of 16 by England, despite a late Colombia goal from Mina to send the game to extra time.

But regardless of Colombia’s finish, Mina certainly showcased what a top talent he is and as a result, many teams around Europe are now interested in him.
