Xavi reveals his “priority” as new Barcelona boss

Xavi unveiled as Barca boss

After almost a week of speculation, Xavi was today unveiled as the new boss of Barcelona, after having departed Qatar side Al Sadd.

The Spaniard arrives in the wake of Ronald Koeman’s sacking, and will be hoping that he falls on the better end of former club legends returning to their old club in management positions.

Xavi outlines plans for Dembele

While of course getting more points on the board will be the main priority for Xavi and co. now they have been instilled in charge of the Catalan outfit, there is another elephant in the room.

The contract of Ousmane Dembele.

Signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for an extortionate fee, Dembele has struggled to kickstart his Barca career thanks in the main to injuries. Now, the 24-year-old Frenchman is down to the last 8 months of his contract, with Liverpool thought to be sniffing around the potential of stealing the starlet on a free transfer in the summer.

However, Xavi has shut that down, revealing that the contract extension is “one of our priorities” now he is at the helm. The Spaniard revealed:

“Extending Ousmane Dembélé’s contract is one of our priorities, yes! He could be the best player in the world in his position”.

“Ousmane has to work a lot, he has the potential to make the difference at Barça as world top player. But he needs to be consistent”

Can Dembele live up to his hefty price tag?
