Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has opted against sanctioning the departure of an out-of-favour member of the club’s midfield ranks, according to reports.
The engine room star set to remain at the Camp Nou for the season ahead? Miralem Pjanic.
The widespread assumption across the summer to date, of course, had been that Bosnian international Pjanic would ultimately go onto seal a permanent Barcelona departure.
This comes with the 32-year-old having spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan in Turkey with Besiktas.
Not only that, but the Blaugrana have too strengthened in the middle of the park already this summer, courtesy of the free agent signing of Franck Kessie.
Nevertheless, if the latest word stemming from Spain is anything to go by, then, in fact, Pjanic is set to be at the disposal of Xavi for the coming term.
As per a report from Javi Miguel of Diario AS, a meeting between Barca’s boss and the club’s midfield outcast took place earlier this week.
And, during the discussion between the pair, Xavi is understood to have informed Pjanic that he will be going nowhere this summer.
This comes owing to both the former Juventus man’s excellent performance in pre-season, and decision to aid the club courtesy of a wage cut.
