Mesut Ozil & Laurent Koscielny
When the Arsenal team sheet for Sunday’s match against Brighton came out, two names were missing from the Gunners squad.
German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil was nowhere to be seen, as was French centre-half Laurent Koscielny.
That came as a big surprise to Arsenal’s fans, who hadn’t been prepared to see those stars out the matchday sqaud.
Arsenal injury updates
It’s been a few weeks since Arsenal fans saw Mesut Ozil start a match.
The German World Cup winner has been on the sidelines with a back injury. Although he made it off the bench for a few minutes during Monday’s 2-0 win over West Brom.
During his absence, some Arsenal fans have commented that the team have been playing better.
At the same time, rumours have popped up linking Ozil with a summer move to Man United.
However, Ozil was thought to be fit, so why was he missing for the Brighton game?
According to reports, the German playmaker was out with a knee injury.
Will that mean Ozil misses Germany’s upcoming matches during the international break.
As for Koscielny, the defender was absent due to a chronic issue.
Koscielny is known to suffer from an ongoing Achilles problem, which is the likeliest reason why the French international was forced to sit the game out.
It’s unclear when either of these players will next be back in action.
Club say Ozil still out due to knee problem, Koscielny unavailable due to (longstanding) Achilles problem. No word on timescales.
