Wolves & Watford could battle it out for Aurelio Buta in January – Mail

Royal Antwerp standout

Aurelio Buta has been on Royal Antwerp’s books for just over a year.

Buta would move from Portuguese powerhouse Benfica to Antwerp on a permanent basis in July of 2018.

However, Buta had previously enjoyed a spell on loan with the Belgian outfit during the 2017/18 campaign.

The 22-year-old has, in total, featured 52 times across all competitions for Antwerp, in which he has scored one and assisted nine.

Buta is naturally a right-back, but he is also capable of playing as a left-back.

Buta has also made several appearances for Portugal at youth level, including five for their under-20 side.

The full-back is having a particularly impressive 2019/20 campaign, which has seen him score one and assist two in 10 league outings.

Buta also has some experience playing in the Europa League, having featured in three qualifiers this season.

The young defender is currently contracted to Royal Antwerp until July of 2021.

Wolves & Watford linked

Now, amid his impressive stint in Belgium, Buta is being linked with a Premier League switch.

According to the Daily Mail, both Watford and Wolves are following the defender, and could battle it out for his signature in the January window.

Both clubs are said to be confident that a £5m bid would tempt Antwerp to cash in on the right-back, as per the Mail.

Should Wolves land Buta, he would provide solid depth to a fairly small squad.

Buta would be especially important if Wolves make it out of their Europa League group, and are faced with more European games in the second half of the season.

As for Watford, they are still yet to pick up a single victory in the 2019/20 PL campaign, and will likely need to spend in January in order to help turn things around.
