Wolves boss Nuno Santo responds to Tottenham links

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo has moved to play down links to Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Mou dismissed

Amid the widespread turmoil surrounding all matters Super League-related, one story slipped somewhat under the radar in England earlier this week.

This of course came in the form of Tottenham’s decision to part ways with Jose Mourinho.

On the back of yet another damaging pair of points dropped at Everton, the board in north London came to the decision that the Portuguese no longer represented the right man to lead them forward.

In turn, an official statement regarding the matter was released on Monday afternoon:

‘I have a contract’

Mourinho has since been replaced by Ryan Mason, who is set to oversee matters at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Mason’s chances of securing the job on a permanent basis, though, look slim.

In turn, ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, Daniel Levy and co. are expected to target another high-profile tactician, to lead a concerted push towards establishing the club as a permanent member of the Premier League’s top-4.

To this point, the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Julian Nagelsmann, Steven Gerrard and even ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino have been touted as potential instalments on the bench in north London.

But, this weekend, another of those rumoured to be under consideration on the part of the Lilywhites hierarchy has moved to distance himself from the position.

The manager in question? Nuno Espirito Santo.

Speaking to the media ahead of Wolves’ meeting with Burnley tomorrow afternoon, Nuno was drawn on the vacant position at Spurs.

The Portuguese, though, was quick to draw a line under such chatter, assuring that he intends to see out his current terms at Molineux:

‘I have a contract. It is my decision to sign a contract and that is what I want to say.’

Nuno continued:

‘When I make a decision like that there is no doubts in my mind. There are no doubts at all.’
