Official: Wolves announce signing of Leander Dendoncker

Wolverhampton Wanderers have this afternoon announced the loan signing of Leander Dendoncker from Anderlecht.

Talented youngster

Dendoncker, a 23-year-old defensive midfielder who is equally comfortable lining out in defence, has been highly rated in his come country of Belgium for several years now, with the Red Devils’ international having long been tipped for stardom.

His performances during Anderlecht’s Europa League quarter-final matchups with Manchester United during the 2016/17 campaign were said to have alerted Jose Mourinho to the talents of the technically-gifted starlet, with the Portuguese tactician having subsequently sent scouts to Belgium to watch Dendoncker in action on multiple occasions last season.

Suitors

However, reports over recent months suggested that interest on the part of the Red Devils had cooled, with the board at Old Trafford having sought out more proven additions to the club’s midfield ranks.

This has since led to a number of other Premier League outfits being linked with potential moves for Dendoncker, with Everton, West Ham United and Watford all touted as potential destinations for the 6-time capped Belgian international, who featured once for his country at this summer’s World Cup.

Done deal

But, after reports began to mount over recent days that a new suitor, in the form of Wolverhampton Wanderers, had taken the lead in the race for the midfielder, claims subsequently emerged this morning that a deal to send Dendoncker to Molineux was on the verge of completion.

And, as per an announcement across the club’s social media platforms a short time ago, Wolves have this afternoon officially secured Dendoncker’s signing, on loan with an obligation to buy next summer:
