Woes mount for Manchester United as star winger limps off against Atalanta

Manchester United looking to rescue a result

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United are currently locked in Champions League action against Serie A outfit Atalanta in what already feels like a must-win game.

The Red Devils were stung by a shock 2-1 defeat to Swiss side Young Boys on the opening matchday of the Champions League season, and needed a last-gasp, and frankly undeserved Cristiano Ronaldo goal to see of Villareal in matchday 2.

And their poor form in Europe has continued this evening, with the Red Devils currently 2-0 down to Atalanta at half-time. Former Chelsea duo Davide Zappacosta and Marco Pasalic combined to give the Bergamo outfit the lead before Merih Demiral, who had earlier been signalling to come off, powered in a header to double the visitors’ lead.

Marcus Rashford pulled one back on his first start of the season with a clinical finish, with the Red Devils currently hunting for an equaliser, and perhaps more.

Rashford injury worry

Despite his goal, however, there could be bad news on the horizon for Manchester United and Marcus Rashford. The forward went down holding his right thigh on the hour mark, and was replaced by Edinson Cavani five minutes later as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wrung the changes in search of an equaliser.

It could prove a real issue for both Rashford and United, with the Englishman having only just returned after shoulder surgery kept him out of the opening games of the season.

Thankfully for the Manchester United faithful, their home talent took his place on the bench rather than heading straight down the tunnel, which tends to be a good sign when it comes to injuries.

Certainly one to keep an eye on.
