With Unai Emery leading the race for Newcastle hot seat, how much the Magpies will pay Villareal revealed

Unai Emery Europa League

Unai Emery leading the race for the Newcastle Job

As was revealed yesterday, it is former Arsenal boss and serial Europa League winner Unai Emery that is now leading the race to become the new manager of the stonkingly wealthy Newcastle Football club.

Following the takeover of the club last month, Steve Bruce was relieved of his duties, with the Magpies still yet to win a game this season after 10 attempts.

And now, it appears as though Unai Emery is the favourite to try and take the Magpies out of the malaise in which they find themselves, and keep them in the top flight this season, which is by no means guaranteed.

Currently at Villareal, Emery has been extremely successful, bringing the club its first Europa League by virtue of a penalty shoot-out win over Manchester United last season, but this season has seen them drop off, and they currently sit in 13th place in La Liga, having won just twice this campaign.

Compensation revealed

Now, as per the Athletic’s reliable correspondent David Ornstein, the amount that Newcastle would have to shell out as compensation to lure him away from the Yellow Submarine has been revealed.

The fee? A 6 million euro drop in the ocean for the new owners. It is also added that he would demand the same sort of money that he was paid by Arsenal (believed to be 6 million pounds per year).

Does he have the required abilities to guide Newcastle out of a relegation dogfight, or would another candidate be more suitable?
