Wilfried Zaha & Harry Maguire: Arsenal & Man United told to pay up

Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha & Arsenal

What are the chances that Arsenal end up signing Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace?

That issue was posed to Roy Hodgson on Tuesday night, following a pre-season friendly at Barnet.

For the record, Barnet beat the Eagles 6-2.

Zaha, of course, played no part in that match, as he’s now on vacation following his participation at the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast.

What Roy Hodgson said about Zaha

The Crystal Palace manager has said the following on Arsenal’s interest in Zaha:

I don’t think Arsenal have actually made a bid that has come anywhere near our valuation.

I’m sure the player realises that if someone’s going to take him away from us, he’ll expect clubs to pay the market value.

Until someone does that, there’s not much to discuss regarding Wilf.

So will Zaha remain at Crystal Palace in 2019-20?

Currently, that seems to be the case.

Man United & Leicester’s Harry Maguire

Earlier this week, the Sun claimed that it was basically a done deal.

The tabloid, who have a reputation for printing transfer BS, claimed that Man United had agreed an 80 million pound deal with Leicester for centre-half Harry Maguire.

Yet, on Wednesday morning, not only is Maguire still with the Foxes, but the defender also played for Leicester on Tuesday in a pre-season friendly against Scunthorpe.

Leicester beat Scunthorpe 1-0.

What Brendan Rodgers said about Maguire

After the Scunthorpe game, Brendan Rodgers said the following about Maguire:

Harry’s a top quality player and no-one has come near the valuation to tempt the club to sell.

The other club interested is a huge club, but he’s a really good guy.

I’ve been in this position a number of times and it’s never easy but he’s taken part in everything and hasn’t showed anything other than sheer professionalism.
