Why Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen has rejected Man United’s approach

Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen & Man United

According to journalist and writer Tom McDermott, who is also a member of the Football Writers’ Association, Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen has rejected an approach from Man United.

It’s been claimed that Man United “did ask about Christian Eriksen”, however the Tottenham midfielder has turned down the opportunity to move to Old Trafford.

Why did Eriksen rebuff Man United?

Tom McDermott claims that it’s because the Danish international prefers a move to Spain.

In addition, the point was made that Man United are having troubles in the transfer market, as the Red Devils cannot offer Champions League football in 2019-20.

Will Christian Eriksen move to La Liga?

Earlier this month, in an interview with the Danish press, Christian Eriksen admitted that he’s open to leaving Spurs this summer.

Eriksen’s contract with Tottenham expires at the end of next season, and for months there have been rumours that the midfielder could leave north London.

The midfielder said: “I feel that I am at a place in my career where I might want to try something new.”

On rumours linking him to Real Madrid, Eriksen said: “It’s a step up. But it requires Real Madrid to call Tottenham and say they want Christian. And they have not done so yet, as far as I know.”

However, suggestions that Eriksen could join Real Madrid have cooled in recent days, according to the Spanish press.

Marca have told their readers that Zinedine Zidane has informed Real Madrid that the only midfielder he wants this summer is Paul Pogba.

In addition, Marca clearly stated that Zidane is not interested in the likes of Tottenham’s Eriksen and Ajax’s Donny van de Beek.

AS have since reported that, in the wake of Real Madrid’s stance, Eriksen is open to sitting down with Tottenham to discuss a contract extension.

AS announced that Tottenham will offer Eriksen a four-year contract, worth 6 million Euro net per year.
